windscreen squeak

I have a 993 C2 '96, which I love to bits.

Had a replacement windscreen end of last year, and I am becoming increasingly annoyed by the squeaking noise I now get, especially when I drive 'briskly' on bumpy B roads. Can the screen be removed and re-fitted properly? Did the fitter not use the correct black gunk to seal? Any advise is appreciated.

Also, I would like to replace the centre console that houses the handbrake and gearstick due to scuffs and marks at the back where people have been getting in and out the back seats before I had the car. Any idea where I can find one (Grey), and is it difficult to remove old and replace myself, or best left to specialist..

Mike, I had a similar problem. My local specialist appears to have cured the problem. He did not have to remove the windscreen but had to fit a new seal and teflon tape.

If you want an OEM console, it's pricey - at least from an OPC; I don't think Gert stocks them. I got a used one from Porsch-apart - and saved over 200 notes.

For handbrake and shifter Gert's prices are good, though selection limited. Plenty of non-OEM stuff around (carbon, alloy), and there are kits for renewing scuffed/discoloured leather. Try Design 911 or Type 911 UK.

As Maurice says, the DIY is easy - even for me! Mainly Philips screwdriver (plus a spanner for handbrake replacement).
