Advice on washer system with intensive cleaning (M286)

Here's a list of questions relating to a problem i have with the intensive cleaning fluid tank, when the washers are operated with the column stalk the fluid tank fills, all the jets are working fine, as does the intensive fluid pump when operated using dash mounted switch, so this raises the question:-

Does the washer system only use the water in main reservoir for screen cleaning
Should both the main tank pump and fluid pump operate at the same time giving a mixture at the screen
The various valves listed on the PET disc are they one way and possibly faulty thus allowing the water to enter the tank.

I've not been up the garage yet to investigate the valves but i think this is probably where my problem lies any of you guys had similar problems, i did read that the porsche cleanimg fluid can cause proplems with gumming up the system any views appreciated

I'm pretty sure that the intensive bottle filling up from the main screenwash supply is a classic symptom of faulty one way valves. The two supplies are joined before merging at the nozzles and there is a non-return valve at the point of joining to prevent exactly the scenario you describe.

Personally, I have never used the intensive wash fluid so I can't comment on your "gumming up" theory. I suspect, however, that there is a great temptation to put something other than the "official" fluid in the intensive wash tank, potentailly giving rise to some potential problems.

I have just noticed that I have this problem too (intensive bottle is filled by using the main windscreen washers) although the windscreen is cleaned adequately with either system. Can anyone tell me where the two systems join so that I can replace the valves? Are they in the passenger wing area or are they closer to the washer jets around where the heating servos are?

They join under the front bulkhead, just shy of the washer jets.

Removal of teh front jest is by pushing back away from the screen with pressure, but carefully, then lift. pull off the connector, then the one way valves can be accessed.

You may find that some high air pressure cures this as the first port of call.

You may find that access to the one way valves is best from luggage compartment, after removing cover over heater etc, the valves are fixed to the pipes with crimped clamps and the pipe lengths are not on the generous side.

If you get an assistant to operate the washers you can carefully clamp the pipes in turn and then eliminate the faulty valve.

The valves are not overly expensive, but do come apart with care, on one of mine the small rubber seal in the 't' piece had shifted on it's seat and became distorted, this was inspected after i fitted a new valve, i didn't think it was worth messing around with more than once.
