Windscreen wiper - control

Would be grateful for any help with a windscreen wiper switch problem:

The stalk switch ( on the steering column ) seems to be loose - so there is les of a nice clean 'click' between the different settings as you move it up and down for the different wiper speeds, so it does not 'lock' into place as firmly as it used to[:(].

Is it possible to tighten these up? or is it more likely to be waer and tear on plastic parts which have worn down?

On an optimistic whim - would a 1980 911 sc steering column switch set fit a 993!!! seems a bit mad to ask, but you never know ( I ask because I have one of these brand new, which I never got round to fiiting in my old SC )

thanks

Sc parts are no good, but boxster/996 fit but you lose third speed wipers because those models don't have a third speed. 964/993 parts are the same , obc lever can be added to a stalk which does not have it, but cruise can not. I have taken lots apart by drilling out the rivets and give them a renewed lease of life. small screws are used to hold the unit together again post repair. I can usually make a good one from two or three bad ones! They are sprung loaded upon dis assembly so watch out!

Christian - many thanks for pointers,

( have replaced audi steering column switches and found out the hard way re. sprung loaded units![:'(] )

Any suggestions on where to buy a replacement unit - guessing a new one a better bet than from a dismantlers ( otherwise runnig risk of same fault not too far down the line?[8|] )

thanks
