Day before MOT!!!

Just giving it the once over.

Operated wipers --- click.....wipers operating arm moves up and down but feels v loose within housing (feels like something snapped within switching unit)

How do you get access to this unit?

Is it a steering wheel off task?

You can get access to the switch gear by taking the top and bottom cowls off. If memory serves there's 4 cross head screws in the lower half and a bit of joogling gets them off. I didn't need to take the switch off so I'm not sure if the steering wheel needs come off to allow this but I suspect so. My washer wasn't working but I got away with spraying copious amounts of electrical contact cleaner into the switch and moving the lever to the various positions (the end result was the washers worked better than they had for years). Doesn't sound like that would solve your problem though.

Maybe have a look on PET to see what the switch mounting looks like?

Hi

I had the same concern just over a year ago.

I was working in Wales and had OPC Cardiff doing some essential/emergency/general upkeep stuff and asked them to look at the left-hand stalks because the cluster felt so loose.

They told me there was nothing wrong with it and I haven't had any concerns with it since then.

I suggest if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Noticed on my way into work that the screws are in the front piece of the cowl not underneath (must be my MX5 that has them there), apologies for any confusion. You have to re-position the steering wheel to get to each of them.

I would also agree with the above - if it ain't broke don't fix it [8|]

Unfortunately the wipers when operating the stalk the windscreen wipers only move intermittently and stop mid screen, as you move the stalk they try to move but they dont seem to be getting the correct "signal" from the stalk.

Have removed steering wheel and I am down to the actual unit (containing both indicator and windscreen stalks).

How do you remove this unit?

Kind regards

Before you remove it try spraying the insides with electrical contact cleaner. My windscreen washer wasn't working at all and spraying the inside with contact cleaner while operating the lever cleaned everything up and it has worked perfectly ever since.

It's a five minute job once the cowl's off and a damn site cheaper than buying a new switch.

Nope unfortunately something broke within the actual switch, really loose to operate and more or less falls back to original position once moved upwards!!!

Only £238 to get a replacement !!!!!

Yip saw the one on ebay...Douglas Valley I think...was tempted but managed a decent discount a Porsche Bristol.......just need to fit now!!
