Windscreen wiper problems

Help please

I seem to have two problems with my wipers on my 1988 Carerra. Firstly, they don't 'park' when you switch them off - should they?

Secondly, I cannot get the intermittent wipers to work - is the switch independent from the wiper stalk? If the switch is not working, is it easy to replace?

The intermittent switch is as pictured by Aldo. This switch alters the speed/delay of the intermittent and unlike later porsche also turns them on. And the wiper stalk is simply wiper speeds 1,2 & 3. However if you Auto Park isn't working I expect that the intermittent relay has/is failing, as when the wiper & intermittent is turned off they should park. Adam. (I believe the relay is located behind the dials etc accessible maybe by removing the clock or via the luggage compartment)

had a similar problem with my wipers, sovled by removing the steering wheel, removing and cleaning the column mounted switch (electrical contact cleaning spray)

Have the exact same problem with mine, just havent had the chance to look into it.I do know there is a relay just behind the clock.

Thanks for the advice guys. Does anyone know if you can test the relay to see if it is faulty before accessing it from the luggage compartment?

I would try cleaning the column mounted switches with electrical contact cleaning spray first, as Calisa suggested, this is a common problem when they get dirty and worn. You might also need to bend the contacts slightly to get a better contact.
