Windscreen Wiper Puzzle

My wipers don't appear to work properly;

All three speeds on the stalk work correctly, except the wipers won't park properly they just stop where ever they are when you pull the stalk into the off position.

The intermittent wipe doesn't work at all, when the switch is turned with the ignition on there is an electrical click as you would expect but the wipers do nothing. If the stalk is moved into any position whilst the intermittent switch is on the same click can be heard as the wipers do a full sweep of the screen.

I have checked all the fuses (that I can find) no problems, I have changed the wiper stalk, for a second hand one, no obvious damage to either connections wise - no change the wipers behave in exactly the same way as before.

I know that there is a relay for the intemittent wipe behind the fresh air blower, but I only really want to take the blower out again if I can be more sure that it will cure the problems (its already been out twice in the last six months to replace the blower motor!)

Im not so bothered about the intermittent not working as much as the fact the wipers won't park properly.

Any ideas - Im not sure where to look next

Mate, I don't know about the 911 but on a Renault 5 the park position and intermittent wipe is controlled by one fuse, similar symptoms to yours if that fuse fails. I know you've checked the fuses but have you checked all the fuse ends and fusebox clips for corrosion/oxidation? All fuses tight in their holders? Just a thought.

Sorry can't be more helpful but will try and have a look at a wiring diagram later if no-one else has any ideas.

There should be a microswitch on the wiper motor itself, which will continue to supply power when you turn the wiper switch (on steering column) off, which is only turned off when the wipers hit the park position.

This is to cope with the power being removed mid-sweep, so that the wipers will then carry on to their parking position, and then stop. This may be connected with the intermittent sweep problem, as well.
