Windscreen wipers - hesitating

Have noticed when operating the windscreen wipers, when I pull the stalk toward me to operate the windscreen washers, the wipers momentarily freeze.
They resume once the stalk is released.

This is most apparent when I'm giving the screen a quick squirt to clean off bugs, etc. If I need to give the windscreen an additional blast of water, the wipers freeze / hesitate momentarily.

Is this normal operation?

It what my 2000 model 996 does too. Seems a bit odd. What I do is put the wipers on normal (up one position) and then spray, then it doesn't pause.

Mine does the same. I find it useful as you can stop the blades to get the water on the screen in the right place without it being wiped straight off, i.e. between the blades when they are rising.

Diesel / Richard,

thanks. Mine's also a 2000.

I did suspect that it was normal, but it struck me as a bit odd none the less.

It's great to be able to use the forum to seek reassurance that other people's cars have the same quirks!

Neil.

Pretty usual acronym amongst Lotus owners [:D]

(and, no, I'm not having a go at Lotus - would definitely have another one)

Guess what I discovered whilst trying to wipe off flies on the Autobahn yesterday ... the wiper actually has two positions to spray! pull stalk back a bit and it washes and wipers freeze in position (as discussed above), pull a bit further and it sprays and wipes at the same time. Always something new to learn with these cars !!
