Windscreen wipers parking position

And now for something else! I find the way the wipers park on the right quite inconvenient as they obscure the o/side front corner of the car when you're going through a narrow gap, such as my garage entrance. Most of my previous cars had wipers which parked on the left and swept up to the o/side A-post, which works well for a RHD car. The 993 wipers are in the middle of the scuttle so they're never going to do that, but I see from adverts that the LHD cars have wipers which park on the left, so presumed that they have a different wiper motor. The PET confirms this and they also have a different crank drive, though I'd need to see it working to understand why. I presume the LHD motor is just set up to park at the other end of its travel, and is otherwise identical.

I was hoping that I could just change the motor (or even modify the stop mechanism), but it seems a crank drive is also needed. The wiper arms and blades are also handed, both the same overall length but with the one on the driver's side having a longer arm but shorter blade. I'm guessing that this is to deal with the greater curvature of the screen towards the sides, so the driver always has the longer arm (which presumably wipes better) in front of him/her, but I see no point in swapping them over, as the steering wheel is staying where it is!

Anyway, has anyone else found a similar problem, and what was the solution?

You can flip the linkage over under the scuttle, no additional parts needed, but its a pig of a job. Porsche designed the wipers to lay on the drivers side for a reason, the water is held off the screen, when the wipers are on the passenger side any water runs up the window. This is fine if you dont drive in the rain! My wipers are parked on the passenger side as I dont use the car in the rain, I just removed the intermittent wiper relay, take off the arms and re-position them on the passenger side. This is easy to do and reversible, try it and see what I mean about the water. The only thing is with the relay removed the wipers dont park, you need to switch them off manually at the bottom of their sweep, easy enough to do after a little practice!
