Windscreen Wipers

reevers

My 1999, 996 C2 Tiptronic has developed a creaking noise every time the windscreen wipers move across the glass. Creak seems to be either from windscreen or dash! New wiper blades have been fitted, but noise is still there. Any suggestions what the problem could be?

Regards

Does your wiper have a spoiler on it to keep it pushed onto the screen? If it has, was there much side wind to blow it off the screen?

Was wiper arm removed to fit new screen? sounds like it's been refitted incorrectly on the 'spline'...... if it's overlapping onto seal!

thanks for the replies, yes wiper has spoiler on it, new screen fitted first then new wipers fitted by OPC, could have been crosswind as it was a bit windy last Wed but even so not somehing I would have thought should happen...will have to wait for a non windy rainy day haha

I had a similar issue when I first got my 996. the garage fixed at the service by undoing the bolt and rotating the wiper slightly. the wiper in its default position was resting on the shroud, is that were yours is?

Hi Chris, thanks, had a quick look, when parked the drivers side wiper sits parallel with the shroud whilst the passenger side wiper sits up at a slight angle. If I move the drivers side wiper round one spline then it will sit down at a angel and possibly touch the passengers side wiper plus will look a bit odd?

All 996/Boxster/Cayman seem to have the driver's side drooping slightly when viewed from the front when parked, ie not appearing to be parallel with the bottom of the screen. Though the when like this two ends of the driver's wiper are each about the same distance from the screen surround. In my experience it has to be like this to avoid clacking on the right side screen surround under some conditions.

Hi Brian,

thanks, will move it round one spline and see if that cures it, whilst also keeping an eye checking anything I see in car parks to see how the wipers are sitting, Bst Andy
