Windshield from a post 1985.5 to a 1984

Hi, one side of the exterior windscreen trim flew off, wasn't surprised when I saw the state of corrosion on the clips holding them in. They literally broke. I swear I wasn't even going fast enough for that to happen. Just thankful it was on a deserted a road at the middle of the night.

Anyway, has anyone here installed a post-85.5 windshield to the old ones and can point me to the right direction? I think it should help the car be more aerodynamic as it sits flush compared to how it currently is on my car. Should reduce wind noise too, in theory.

don't think they fit. The aperture etc is different on the later cars .The fact is that quite a lot of the shell is different on the later cars.

This happened to me lol. But I was on a busy dual carriageway
Luckily it blew off on to a grassy verge so managed to get it back.
I phoned my local Porsche dealer I'm sure he said each clip was £1.11

You certainly can fit a series two windscreen to a series one car, without question.

You will need to clip the rivet-like mounts for the aluminium surround first, but after that they will fit straight in and it will look so much smarter. If your existing windscreen is free from scratches and chips and is in otherwise good condition, then a skilled fitted will be able to remove it and refit it on a layer of adhesive sufficient to dress it into into this later position.

This used to be reasonably common and twenty years ago Id have been able to suggest someone who had sufficient experience to get it right the first time (fail and it will look wrong or commonly leak), but you might struggle to find someone able, now...

I forget to mention that you will need to relieve one of the wiper arms afterwards. I believe that it is the near side but its years since I have done this myself.

Ahh, knew it was doable! I just need to find a glass fitter who can do this for me.

Or wait to get it done once I've got a genuine need to get it sorted... like the trim flying off again :D

You live and learn Simon. I would never have thought that it was possible.I stand corrected [:D][:D]

In every respect apart from this you are correct. The body itself is different and many panels are too, even if they will fit. There is actually very little that isn't different, but the windscreen hole is still the same. [:D]

Is it also possible to transfer the post-facelift wiper? Are they better? Having said that I noticed that the post-facelift wipers are wiping the "right" way.

I think that I used a LHD arm, but I read recently that someone relieved their original arm and used that.

Whilst I'm at it, how easy would it be to convert the wiper set-up from LHD to RHD? It's like Porsche didn't bother converting the pre-facelift cars with a RHD set-up.
