Windshield rust

When the old windshield was taken off there was rust in some places...[] It is now repared by OPC and then the new glass will be installed.
I am just wondering what extra protection measure can be taken in the future to avoid this damn rust under the rubber?
Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot
Andrew

Make sure the repair has 100% removed the rust and that the paint finish has no missing / porous bits in the channel. Then make sure the teflon tape is fitted as part of the windshield fitment. The tape stops the rubber trim rubbing through the paint.

Most rust in this area is caused by either the rubber wearing through the paint or by removal of a previous windshield damaging the paint work. Because water sits in this channel the combination of water and bare metal starts the process.

Thank you Jan.
Don't know if the already fixed the new windshield... Can this teflon tape be fitted when the glass is already in its place?

If the OPC did the repair (actually, they would have sent it to an external company to do the repair) this will be covered by a lifetime guarantee.

Would the OPC lifetime guarantee cover rust caused by them changng the windscreen?

I've spent the past five months chasing Porsche West London and Porsche GB to get some rust round the windscreen wipers repaired. PGB have just replied (at last) stating that the rust would have been caused by the windscreen change two years ago so I should contact Porsche East London who replaced the screen then...

Is the lifetime guarantee held by the OPC that replaced the screen? ie do I have to go back to the OPC that replaced it or can I choose one nearer to me?

I found that this wasn't the case. I took my car to a Porsche approved bodyshop for a quote to repair the windscreen corrosion. I expected the quote to be high but assumed I would get the lifetime gaurantee. When I questioned them further they advised that they would gaurantee against poor workmanship or quality of repair but would not gaurantee against the corrosion returning. I'm now looking for somewhere else to get the work done.

Today I have unfortunately just noticed some rust bubbles in the bottom corner of the windscreen under the rubber on the passenger side - about the size of a 2p piece.

What is the general thought here - repair asap (even though we are just coming into the summer), or wait until the rust breaks the paint work?

Cheers,

From previous experience (er, a rusty SC, particularly) I'd get it done ASAP, because the longer it"˜s left the bigger area it can cover without you knowing the extent! I know 993s are a damn sight better than the older cars, but once it's there you need to kill it. Have had rear screen done on 993 as soon as I saw the problem - caught it when it had just started (little bubbling, one bottom corner of screen).

I have a similar at the bottom rhs of the windscreen.

What's the repair procedure? New screen and rubber plus the rust repair and repaint?

Anyone know the likely cost?

Out of interest how much did it cost to repair the minor rust bubbling on the rear windscreen?

Can't really give cost, as it was done along with other bits & pieces at the same time. Basically a bit more straightforward than the front screen. Make sure they know what they're doing and how to remove/replace your rear wiper properly, though, as they broke my (rear wiper assy.) on replacement! Easy to do, if you don't know the wiper set up - cost them (not me) £99 odd to put a new one on.

I was quoted £780 all in assuming that it was all surface corrosion and there was no need to weld in new metal. This was at a porsche approved bodyshop.
