Today I have tried to remove the inner liner of the front wing as I am seeing some rust breaking through the very bottom of the rear of the arch.The advice from the forum is to remove the wing liner and apply a rust inhibtor. This I have tried to do but have found some difficulty in removing the liner. My question is does the liner come free from the front piece of theplastic undertrim, which runs the lengh of the car, or must the trim be removed at the same time. I did not think it was going to be quite so trickey The car is a1990 S2

No, the front plastic undertrim (I presume you mean the bit that attaches to the underneath of the bumper) is is a separate piece, but it is bolted to the liner by two brackets. These need to be unbolted, as do all of the large plastic nuts in the arch itself, and the two bolts at the back.
Once all the fasteners are removed then the liner will come free, but it can be a struggle to start it moving. Once it starts, it will come out pretty easily, but it will take a bit of a tug to begin with. If it won't come out with a good pull then check to make sure there aren't some errant fasteners still attached.
Refitting is the reverse of removal etc etc etc. And once it's in place it will stay in place pretty firmly, allowing you to put the fasteners back on.

assuming you mean the trim at the bottom of the wing (behind the front wheel), this needs to be removed. Just 3 bolts, and then as Oli says, all of the other fastners and it will come free. It is normally tricky the 1st time as the fasteners are probably rusted (particularly at the front, nearest the bumper), but next time will be easier.
By the undertrim I mean the peices of plastic trim which run between the front and back wheelarches in two sections ,the liner passes behind the trim and is attached by a small plastic peg- which I have removed, but it is proving difficult to get the liner free from behind the trim.I am a bit scared to try to force it unless I am sure it will come free without having to remove the trim which I dont want to do unless essential ,as the the fixings are a bit rusty. the front of the liner seems to come free fairly easily
Well, I have had a go at removing the trim, but the whole area seems to be a bit creaky (rust). I have therefor booked my car in to get the bottom of the wing cut out and replaced. I would advise anyone who contemplates removing the bottom trim to enable the liner to be be removed to think very carefully.It is probably OK if the wing bottoms have been repaired and are sound but otherwise forget it.
