wing mirror success

finally I am able to contribute to this forum, rather than just asking questions, having spend a few hours yesterday in the garage

My problem was a wobbly wing mirror, the square type not teardrop

The wing mirror is taken apart by first carefully prizing the glass mirror from its frame, which is only held by 3 spring like clips. Once this is removed there are 3 no. 8mm bolts that further strip the housing

The main body of the mirror is held to the door mount by a hollow threaded bolt that had come adrift. You will need to remove the door mount which is held in place by a small allen key bolt that is visible when viewed from above.

This hollow bolt is a bit tricky to tighten back into to place as it must compress a large spring at the same time, which is what gives the mirror its spring mounted characteristics.
You have to hold the casing upside down and be able to compress the spring, whilst also tighteneing the bolt !
There is probably a proper Porsche tool, but a large screw driver or in my case a blunt chisel did the trick

Sounds complicated but is pretty easy

Anyway hope it helps someone out there

nice one
well done Jonathan[;)]

when are you going to post some pics of the car - would love to see it
