Wing removal and the ongoing repairs

Have started to dismantle having tee'd up the spares and am wondering how the front wing detaches from the door end.
Obviously unbolts everywhere else. Don't want to mark the door or mess up the inner wing.
Is it just sealent holding it on?
Any thoughts gratefully received.

It should just unbolt. When mine needed replacing last year it wouldn't move after the bolts came out. Turned out that it had had a knock in the past and the "repairers" had used filler which prevented the wing's removal. Fingers crossed yours should be easier to remove. John
 
Hi David,Don,t forget the couple of alan screw head bolts that you can just see under the top of the wing where the door opens,by the wiring loom that runs down
 
Dave 3 bolts along the rear vertical surface - you can reach the top and bottom with a long socket extension from up inside the wheel arch, for the middle one you need to get your hand up behind the abs unit - there is another 'shielding' panel behind the abs unit, its quite small. Not much room but can be done. Lots of mastic type material bonding the wing on. Similar to under the leading edge by the bonnet. Again inside the wing area on the inner part where it meets the inner wing there is lots of silicon type sealant. Prise slowly and steadily using a knife to cut away as you go. Only managed on small chip on the return edge of my door - difficult to see when the wing is back on. If you struggle i can take a phot if you want with wing removed. We appear to lead the way on lots of jobs on these cars don't we Dave ;) JP
 
We do Jason, we do[:)] Well mine is the n/side wing so no abs unit but there is a great big canister with pipes off the side into the engine bay, out the bottom and rearwards. Is it part of the abs or a vacuum storage for the central lock etc? One of the useless clips on the bottom pipe just fell apart when I touched it! I can see 3 bolt heads which I can get to. Having said that I'm going to let my bodyshop lads remove that last bit so I can drive it the two miles to them with a couple of bolts in the wing. The bolt on panel where the headlight sits was badly bent and the inner wing sort of extension which carries the bracket for the wing and the headlight panel is pushed in. I removed the PU easily as it was all original fittings and all complete. Seems to tie up with the 70k miles as does the wear on the car generally. Taking photo's along the way[&:] Made me smile as I went round it thinking about what was missing on my old car when I had it and figuring out where all the parts went after I'd bought them! I will have all the bits on Friday ready to go to the bodyshop. I'm using guys I know down at Shardlow next to PH Sportscars as they have experience in rebuilds having done quite a few cat d's including a 996 and a 308. They've done some smaller work for me which has been very good. I'm going to get them to sort the metal work, remove the rear PU and repair the rear wing, fix the front wing, line it all up and paint everything including the PU so I can fix that myself fully after doing a few jobs while it's off. Like the sneaky airbox mod[;)] plus clean and waxoyl everywhere. Got to get a couple of beading bits, brackets made up for the wheelarch liner and the brake pipe from front to rear as it's very rusty at the back where it turns upwards to the union. That's one long brake pipe! Need pads and discs at the front, stainless hoses, M030 arb's with polys, get the sunroof working - any ideas where to start appreciated - and the passenger door central lock, cam chain + bits if I can't find any history to suggest they were done at 60k. Car does have Dick Lovett sticker and plates so will be chasing them soon just in case, then onto the previous owners when I get the info from DVLA. Alarming amount of wiring and sound deadening felt in the thing, its all over the place! No wonder it felt smooth and quiet[&:] and it's got rear seats! Very tempting to start ditching things ie those seats, belts, rear wiper etc but that would spoil what is a very nice car. Will need a damn good claying and proper polish as its covered in swirls as black non metallic. The wheels are a mess so a refurb in orange I think[;)]. Anyone know where I can get side decals reading "968 Sport" in orange to finish it off? Cheers Dave

Picked up the PU, wing, headlamp assembly, inner wing liner and headlight mounting bracket thingy this morning from Alistair at Porscha-recycled. Nice chap, had a look at his 924 race car and a chat with his father. My bodyshop guys have said they can start it in a couple of weeks so gives me time to fit the brake bits and the arb's and have a good scrub up and waxoyl of the front while no PU in the way. Especially the oil cooler mounting bracket that gets all the crap thrown at it. Also the airbox mod that leaves the box looking standard while drawing more air from underneath. Got it higher this afternoon and not bad at all. Still looks all original with fairly new rear shocks. Standard Sach. Will have to replace the other two brake lines as they are badly rotted. The little distributor body as well, as I know they are not coming out of there

Looks like maybe a leak of fluid at some time destroying the anti rust treatment as the metal fuel lines are badly corroded and the body in that area also suffering from bad surface rust. Makes you realise what that damn salt does to your underparts

The old CS, being an import, was miles better unerneath. Great fun, as having done it all before I should know what to expect. Except all those electrickery bits

Dave - you are getting stuck into this -- was it something in the spring air that has triggered you off ??? ps -- slightly off topic -- PCGB races at Donington on Sat 4th April -- some of the usual suspects involved -- as you are so close might you come to join the party?
 
What triggered me off was the state of the used car market for the past weeks. Can't buy anything for sensible money as no new cars being sold so no used ones coming in. Cars at auction are being sold for retail money and if you have something for six weeks instead of three you're looking at blowing it away. Then again did sell a couple of bits last week and have some more arriving - hopefully - this month. So, the above, coupled with me wanting a more modern classic sort of daily driver and having a bit more time, led me to darkest shropshire for the Sport! I have realised I probably enjoy the repair side just as much, if not more than, the driving bit[&:] Also keeps all the joints and old muscles working and the brain ticking rather than moaning about the economy/government/trade etc down the pub[:D] Will try to get up for the racing. Is it just Sat or Sunday also? Cheers Dave
 
Dave Racing is only on Sat the 4th April at Donington (youi can have a lay in on Sunday then!) -- so it will be a busy day to squeeze everything in. Probably have to arrive about 6am to set up! Useful insight into the state of the used car market -- a friend of mine goes to BCA auctions andd was telling me about shortages & some of the silly prices being achieved. All the best. Paul
