Wing removal

There are times when I could happily light the fire with a Haynes manual. Every one of the pile I have bought over the years contains huge howlers or gross omissions.

I am about to remove the nearside front wing in order to do a thorough job of renewing the burnt PVC underseal (the story of this car will come a bit later). Check Haynes to see how many bolts .... not a clue as it just says "the fender is secured by bolts". Well - I had worked that much out !
Can see all the obvious ones :- extreme front corner, front inner ones by battery vent tube, top row ... the question is how many are to be dug out of the remaining PVC sealant that is smothered all over the rear inner vertical section ?

All the one in the engine bay, three into the a pillar from inside the wing, one at bottom of wing into sill by door, then several into the centre valance (helps to remove bumper)

The key on is under the headlight rubber - raise the lights, pull out the bit of rubber at bottom, and you'll find a bolt there.

Thanks Geoff and 'Monty'.

Dug away heaps of PVC sealant and found all three back bolts. Once excavated, these bolts unscrewed as if they had been put in yesterday - rather than 25 years ago. The goo on the sealing strip kept the threads A1. All other bolts came out with similar ease. Left bumper on in fact and just lifted front end slightly over inner wing lip after running a Stanley knife under top edge to loosen the original non-setting grey sticky stuff. Whole job took just 7 minutes, not counting digging out the back bolts to get 10mm socket on. Discovered very minor surface rust at top rear corner, spreading under PVC layer. Easily scraped back and to be redone with some ultra-sticky non-setting black bitumastic that was developed for underwater use on steel lock gates ! Discovered rather more serious rust at lower edge of inner wing, have cut out a section about 4" long - so still hardly major stuff but worth sorting properly.
Thanks again.
