Winter deep clean continues ....

When I bought the RS last month it was 'clean' but it was nowhere near my usual standard. Those that know me will know just how clean I like my cars to be. After having had the bodywork fully detailed by Gordon @ Defined Detail we now have the car back in our workshops and the cleaning continues. Haven't driven it much now that December is upon us so im spending the time brining the car to my standard and patiently waiting on springtime to use it in anger .....

See you featuring in the JZM ads , in the small print.

Just out of interest it would be interesting to let the " dirty guys" know what you do to achieve a clean wheel arch , any special products and how much disassembly, and how much time.

Festive Greetings
Mike

Hi Mike , thanks for the kind comments ......... the RS was fairly clean when I bought it but to be honest it needed some BC TLC ! I knew this when I bought it - nothing desperate just a good deep clean to bring it to the standard of my turbo . After having the bodywork machine polished by a specialist I brought it back to ours for a ' wheel off clean '. We have our own ramps which really helps here .Basically we de-tarred the splash guards, inner arches & struts, cleaned the brakes and painted the hubs silver . We also painted the wheel studs are they were discoloured. For cleaning we used a general purpose heavy duty motor trade degreaser along with a high pressure airline nozzle - nothing more really . We also cleaned the inside of the wheel rims where there were various tar deposits . It's now getting to where it want it to be .

Easy answer - drive the thing! I've already put 1000 miles on the 993.........

Fair point - but there ain't no fun in driving anything on dark, muck ridden, pot holed road in winter. Hence why this month I am white van man !

............and to complete the winter clean theme I've managed to get the RS fuel flap signed by none other than Walter Rohrl himself ! Result !

Loving the Rhorl sig, , I also have my shell signed by Walter but in go faster blue, which as we all know is the fastest colour that Walter signs. I believe he reserves the gold signatures for the " Garage Konigin "
Gordon has had his car signed as well with a unique colour that was used in the Olympics which Walter refers to as Dame Kugelstober.
Back to the cleaning , do you apply the degreaser under pressure or remove with high pressure, would like to get my arches looking tidier this year.

Thanks Mike ,

For the arches we used a Tornador - like a spray gun except it throws out a very fine spray of high pressure solution in a circular vortex motion......an ingenious device that works wonders when cleaning the cabins on filthy vans ! Needs a decent compressor to run it. I'm delighted with the Rohrl signature also - I discovered that my sisters neighbour in Dubai is the CEO for Porsche (Asia & Middle East) and being a Glasgow boy I never like to miss an opportunity and he did me the favour .

Hope you are well

Kind regards

Barry
