Winter maintenance

For the last few days I've been wondering about my tyres as the seemed odd when on full lock at low speeds (maneuvering off drive, etc).

Just checked the pressures, and hold on to your ice-creams, they were shocking. Each one was consistently way below the recommended. I'm a bit embarrassed to say what they actually were.

The thing that I have concluded out of this is that the 24k/2 year (first service) on the latest cars means that there seems to be an extra need for owner maintenance.

I know I should do this anyway as a matter of common sense but we're all too busy aren't we?

Anybody else not checked their tyre pressure since they had the car (obviously not the most recent purchases)?

Hi,

Also remember that the tyres will be stone cold in this weather, reducing the pressure further

Pete

Tyres should ideally be checked weekly, although i tend to do mine every two weeks (including a check for stones/nails in the tread).

pressures drop something like 2psi for every 5'C so if you've not checked them since September then you could be 8psi or more on the low side !

If you have run considerable miles at such deflated pressures then you could have damaged the sidewalls, so check them carefully now for any bulges

I'm never too busy to check my tyre pressures! [8D]

Tony,

As with others I check at least once a week, and especially if a noticable temperature change over a few days. I check afer every session on a circuit too.

I haven't checked mine since I bought it, although I did have a quick shifty to make sure they were all still round then other day [;)]

Makes me feel guilty now...maybe I'll check them as soon as the weather warms up a bit.....like June

Now today's decision......-5C, snow forecast......does that mean I'll need a hat when I put the roof down?[8|]
