Winter Tyres...?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any idea if winter tyres are available for the 993 (or 911)?

Thanks. Jp

JP,

Michelin certainly do a full range of Porsche approved "N" rated winter tyres - and I'm sure they can't be alone.

The problem with winter tyres is that they perform best when the weather is quite cold (obviously) and UK winters are rarely sustained enough to justify keeping them on for any length of time.

Regards

The ones I have work better than normal tyres at temps below +7, I put them on my non Porsche in November, and swap them back to summer tyres in March

They are not just for snow, they give much better grip in general wet and cold conditions - would thoroughly recommend them

There is a previous thread on 993 winter tyres here:

Several articles have been published in Cristophorus magazine over the years - there are/were numerous options from Conti/Pirelli and Michelin dependent upon whele sizes. Contacting your local OPC should provide the latest information.

Winter tyres are not a problem for Porsches as long as the sizes are bigger than 15 inch. In countries such as Switserland, Austria etc it is compulsory fitment and yes, do not think for one minute that Porsche drivers are not using their cars in the snow.

The rear wheel drive version is a dream in those conditions due to that engine/weight as well as traction at the back. A Carrera 4 gives perhaps a better (false?) sense of safety but that doesnt do it for me, personally. Just did 2600 km back and forth between Crans (CH) and Notts.

Thank you very much for the feedback!.. Typical that I missed the previous thread on winter tyres (oops!)...

Bert, what fantastic photos! this looks like a great trip!

I looked at Continental tyres website, and for the "sports" option winter tyres, a 996 is featured... I should have done a little research before just asking the question!

Anyway, thanks for the responses, and the photos!
