Winter Tyres

Are there any members that use their 997 all year round and swap their wheels and tyres for winter? If I have 19 inch wheels currently on c2 cabriolet, could I get a set of 18s with winter tyres. The TPM, are they on the wheels or part of the abs system? I know I can adjust from 19 to 18 on the pcm.
 
I guess it depends on what mileage you do, where you live, condition of the roads etc...I don’t use my C2S much in bad weather as I have an SUV however I have driven it in thick snow and it performed brilliantly. Personally wouldn’t go to the expense unless you commute everyday....

 
The thing is I am semi rural. I own a four wheel drive, but my wife drives it. I've just sold my large SUV and bought the 997. I have been stuck on summer tyres before on my way home from work. What I think I will do is wait until we have a bad winter and look for a cheap set of wheels and but some winter boots on. I have currently got 19 inch lobster claw wheels on the car, could I get 18 inch wheels or even 996 wheels ?

 
I use winters on mine, December through March. 19" only option for me as 18" will not clear brake calipers (PCCB). If you go with 18" you'll need different aspect ratio tyres to keep rolling radius the same. The TPM System is configurable in the menus by selecting winter or summer tyres. This is necessary because the tyres run at different pressures (or at least they do on my GT3), check your manual.

 
Thanks for the info, yes different they are different pressures front to back. Can I use 996 18 inch wheels on my 997?

I used to use my 997.2 c4s all year round including commuting and swapped to 18" wheels with winter tyres, make sure you get the right offset of rear wheels ( carrera 2 are different to carrera 4 due to different body widths) - front wheels are the same.

 
That's a quite tempting prospect but I am sure my wife would divorce me if I bought something else. I did contemplate for a second selling my 924 for garage space but I just cannot part with that car.

 
Thanks for the info. So to summarize, I can use 18 inch wheels from 996/997 but get the right offsets . TPM is the sensor I can see on the tyre valves, I probably don't need these for my winter wheels but they seem reasonably priced so I could add. Please someone correct me if I am wrong, thanks.

 
I have a Targa 4S and a set of winter wheels/tyres, nearly new, which fit 997.1. They work well in winter and my lack of use is change of car! Any use to you?
