Winters Back!

Chaps,
Started the cab up this morning about 9.30am and she fired up after a few turns of the engine as she normally does without issue.
Now although it wasn't quite frosty it was b****y cold nontheless.Drove off a few mins later with the lights on and my cd player on into town - all ok.Parked up after a while at a relatives house - returning to the car all she would do was turn over but not fire up.
Swapped the DME with my spare and it didn't make a difference.
Thinking i'de drained the battery i had a jump start to which she started to turn over much quicker and after a few seconds fired up with a puff of smoke from the rear and off to go no problems.
Thing is though the ignition barrel/switch didn't "feel right" at all as i was having the jump start or before - the key stayed in the far position and kept the engine turning over until it fired - also the immobiliser alarm was bleeping on and off throughout until it fired up (new ignition switch was fitted at the start of the summer).
I've had an issue with the ABS warning light coming on and off over the past three days (only since the weather changed cold this week though).
Got home ok (she drove fine), went to restart and it did the same - I've now got the battery on charge but i'm not entirely sure it's down to the battery.
What do you reckon guys - i'm wondering if the ignition barrel could be the cause?
Any advice appreciated.

Update on this - i've charged up the battery and it feels much better turning the engine (not as sluggish) but she'll fire up after about 4 or 5 turns of the key.
The key sticks in the far position but then when she catches will allow me to turn the key to the next click back and runs fine so i'm thinking the key barrel's knackered - is this a specialist job to do?

I've spent many a weekend trying to fathom weird electrcal faults, stuff that would come and go and the like. Get a new battery mate. Twice now, on different cars i've found the battery to be at fault, not holding charge and thus not getting the required volts/amps to the various things that rely on it.
As for the ignition barrel thing, sorry man, no idea.

Turned out to be the "new" ignition switch i fitted - removed the large connector from the rear and the switch was loose and fell apart!Bought this one from the States - that'll teach me not to buy anything other than OEM i suppose.
