Wiper arm problem

My drivers-side wiper keeps falling apart! The connection between the end of the motor arm and the end of the wiper arm keeps coming away. It's almost like a ball-and-socket type connection (see picture). I can't see that I'm missing any bits? Is it just wear and tear? If I place some kitchen roll (?!) in the lining of the ball connection (part 2) it makes for a tighter fit and does last for a while, but it soon fails during a good down poor! Any ideas if I'll be better off replacing part 1 or 2?

Well documented issue Benny ~ occurs on RHD cars as water drains into the cup.

Part 2 should wear sacrifically, and the whole arm is approx £7 to replace from an OPC. I'm sure the part number is quoted on here in a few threads.

If the ball-end is worn you're looking at lots more.

You'll need a long screwdriver / crowbar and some cunningly positioned blocks of wood to pop the new one on - and you should grease it regularly to avoid recurrence.

Just did this job, bit of a faff removing the fan box screws wiper mechanism attaching bolts but v. straightforward - took about an hour. Not sure about the crow bar & wood [&:] - a bit of wiggling to seperate and deadweight to connect new one. Don't have the part number but it's the 'short' linkage you need - as testified by the spare long linkage I also now own!

The ball wore out on mine so I sleeved it with heat-shrink tubing, packed the socket with grease and popped it back in. Job done in 5 minutes and zero cost. :)
