Wiper blades & arms?

My 1984 Carrera needs replacement wiper blades. Problem is I recently purchased a pair of 13" wiper blades and they would not fit the wiper arms which are fitted to my car. The wiper arms on the front of the vehicle have a narrow arm (5mm) whereas the single rear wiper has a wider arm (8mm) which took a standard blade. I am wondering if someone has changed the front wiper arms at some time?
I have made inquiries at a couple of well know Porsche parts specialists and the cost for a pair of wiper arms is amazing. From what information I have gleaned from one parts dealer is that the 3.2 uses the same arms as the 964 which are priced at: Front Right Arm £45, Front Left Arm £30, Wiper End Cap (2) £4 all items plus vat and p/p. Then you have to purchase two 13" wiper blades.
Here's the million dollar question; Does anyone know where I can maybe purchase these items a little cheaper? I do feel that £100+ is a touch expensive for a couple of wiper arms. I am however in a bit of a Catch 22 situation as the blades which are fitted will shortly need changing and I do not know of anyone who sells a wiper blade which will fit?

Cheers guys
Ray

Try Halfords, you may be surprised, online of course. I would recommend the 964 arms, much better springs.
Otherwise shop around.

Try these blades here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371428441438?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I've used these for the past five years or so and fit on my 964 front arms - these have the twin spring setup up per arm, whereas the original arms have just one spring. The wiper blade should be the same for both ?

I do have a pair of original single spring arms and a spare set of blades as above that I could test with, but won't be until sometime next week now.

I bought my replacement blades at Halfords (Bosche) they are better than the original Bosche and not that exspensive

I have had a few replies (thanks guys) to my problem but the biggest issue is the replacement arms. Halfords do not do them. The blades are not really an issue other than I cannot get blades to fit the arms which are fitted to my car at the moment.
The Porsche 964 arms are the way to go but I cannot source any under £100.

I bought some arms for my 3.2 from Design911. Unfortunately they came through for a left hand drive car so wouldn't fit. I sent them back & refurbished mine. Have a look on their site. Have them listed quite cheaply [:)]

Ive just checked and found I bought my arms from Design 911. I fitted the 964 version as they have double springs and therefore prevent wiper lift that the single spring arms can be prone to.
Hard to imagine someone would have changed the arms to non standard ones in the past for any reason. If you take the car to a Halfords branch, theyll probably help you try and find the right ones.
I know they do Bosch ones as Paul says.
It does seem a bit extreme to change the arms to fit a set of blades you already have.

As I said on the phone, what you have are 100% not original arms, I have no idea what they are though!

All wiper arms back to 1964 are 8mm wide and will take a standard blade

You cant buy the single spring items anymore, they are now the double spring 964 type

Hi Matthew - can you confirm the 3.2 and 964 arms use the same wiper blades?

This shows the difference in the 911 3.2 wiper arm and the 911 (964) wiper arm (top pic). So the arms fitted to my car are the original wiper arms which are only 5mm wide. Whereas the later model 964 has 8mm wide arms and double springs.
Looks as though I am going to have to bite the bullet and purchase the later model arms. Especially as getting blades for the earlier arms (5mm) is virtually impossible.
Just got to wondering if new blades come with different fitting options? You know all those little plastic bits that we normally throw away wondering why the hell they included them in the first place?

Are you seriously saying that it is impossible to get blades that fit the original 3.2 arm?
in other words everyone with a 911 with the original arms will have to change to 964 arms when their wiper blades need replacing ?

OK, a picture says a 1000 words.................sorry I was talking shyte, happens alot nowdays, I now understand what you are saying

Single spring arms are indeed 5mm and double are 8mm

The Bosch wiper blades have a clip positioned already in the blade that fits both 5mm and 8mm arms (as do all other makes I have here, SWF etc)

So now I understand what you saying but cant work out why you cant fit the blades. I have just fitted one to a 5mm and a 8mm arm, no problem at all.

I fitted 964 arms to my car back in 2012 and I've just found the invoice. Purchased from my local OPC, with club discount they cost just under £30 each and were worth every penny for the reason Graham mentioned above and because they follow the curvature of the 'screen far better. To complete the picture, the blades were just over £25 for the pair - and yes, they have a 964 part number.

Graham,
I wouldnt say that. What happened to me was I ordered (online) a set of 13" wiper blades and they only fitted 8mm wide arms. When I asked the dealer about this I was told that 8mm was the standard width of most arm widths.
Hopefully I shall be able to find out more tomorrow as I am going to look further into this at a couple of retailers rather than online.

The blades which did not fit were Aerotwin. I purchased a pair for my Boxster and a pair for my 911. They (the ones which I bought) didnt come with any fitting options. Maybe the Bosch frame type come with different fitting options included.
