Wiper Blades......

I've just bought a set of these to compliment (and not scratch) my new winscreen. Not fitted yet but I'll update once they are (should be this week, then I need a bit of rain to test them).

Hi Matt and Colin- have you fitted these flat blades yet - are they any good as not very happy with
with standard Bosch blades even when new.
Cheers
Ron

Mine aren't on yet.

One of tonight's jobs is taking off the wiper arms and refurbishing them prior to putting the new wipers on. The black on them has faded to dark grey over time and I know it'll bug me if I leave it!

I will update once they're tested though.

I haven't bought them yet, however hearing good things from people who have used them on other makes of car. I eagerly await Matt's opinion.........

What you using to refurb your wiper arms, mines are also a bit greyish...........may buy new pending on cost[8|]

£22 each for fronts, and £23 for the rear.

I'm stripping using Nitromors All-Strip Mousse, rubbing down using different grades of wire wool, priming using a grey primer spray, then using Satin Black Hammerite spray to finish them off.

It'll take about 2 days allowing for 24 hour drying time between the primer/paint and then the same again after painting before use. In terms of actual labour time, I'd estimate less than an hour as half the time spent is waiting between paint coats/for the stripper to work.

You can spray the Hammerite direct to many metals but I prefer to use primer too for a thorough job.

I fitted them in Feb to my 944t

They are much better than the Bosch blades which tended to judder a bit.

E-bay Seller : aj4151, cost £9-90.

Its a no brainer

I fitted a set of these to both the Impreza and the RX8.

Summary of both sets - rubbish []

RX8 drivers wiper judders.

Both cars were designed for std wipers so "conversion" to the blade ones require a big lump of plastic to maintain the spacing twixt wiper and arm - this means a big lump of plastic which passes directly through your field of vision. At night it's particularly distracting.

I get lift on the lower edge of the drivers side wiper at anything over 60 in both cars ~ at 80+ it's baaaad.

Whilst they seem to work well on cars that have them as OEM fitting (although the C-Class I drove for a week wasn't great) my strong suggestion on a 944 would be std "frame" wipers with a spoiler on the drivers side to ensure it stays in contact. I'll be reverting back to these next time. [/i]

Just when you think you've got it sorted[:D]

Think I'll try them anyway doesn't rain that much in Scotland...............

You'll regret it [:D]

M8 at ahem mph in the scoob in light rain (but late at night) saw the drivers side clearing from the wiper arm fixing point outwards only - the entire lenght of the blade inward of the fixing point completely off the screen. [&:]

You'd be as well reaching out the window and trying to clear the rain with a can of diet bru.

Matt,

Have you tried them yet ............you have got the decider[;)]

They are on, but the car hasn't been out in the rain!

I did a little 'test' just using a hose and they were excellent but it wasn't very realistic, especially as there was no wind speed to contend with.

These type of wipers are standard on my Audi A4 and I bought a set for the Boxster 6 months ago as well. For me I would say they work better than the standard wipers and really stick to the windscreen at speed rather than juddering.
I've seen a few people though who are not impressed, maybe some of the cheaper ones available on Ebay don't work as well?

I've used these and they work OK but I noticed they didn't work as well at motorway speeds. I did notice that the wiper arm is higher off the windscreen than with the standard blades which makes them more susceptable to lifting at motorway speeds and therefore don't work as well. I get a smear on the drivers side slap bang in your field of vision. This is what prompted me to go the whole hog and replace the whole arm as if you have a proper arm the arm lies paralell to the blade rather than over it and therefore is not exposed to the airflow as much. However i'm having problems identifying a suitable modern arm to retrofit.
