Wiper Blades

Who are the OEMs for the wiper blades on our Porsches and any alternate recommendations; don't use them much as RainX does the job but they are showing age and may be marked on the next MOT.

Many thanks

I think Bosch are the OEM blades. I use the PIAA Silicone Wipers - brilliant, but expensive at about £15 each. They give a similar effect to Rain-X. once they have been used for a while. I get them from http://www.a-pp.com/.

I agree with Richard, Silicone Wipers are brilliant.

I got satin black PIAA Silicone Wipers on my 986, I'm very happy with them...

The Passenger's Side wiper is curved, unlike other makes...

You can also get them in Carbon colour instead of black, but only one wiper (Driver's Side) !

Thanks Richard,
OPC charge £42 for the Bosch, so £30 for a PIAA blades is a bargain!

Thanks Chris,
The PIAA site show different blades for passenger and driver side and the site Richard posted sells all the types of blades i.e. Curved, Carbon look, etc with no mentioned of driver or passenger difference (i.e. just says order two). PIAA site shows the passenger side as a different part number... Is the curved just a visual thing or actually serve a purpose?

PIAA.co.uk inconsistencies: The same driver side 22" blade when going as 996 shows the price as £14.28 but via Boxter is £18.37. Didn't misspell it, that is how the site spells it[;)]

I use the standard straight ones on my 996 and they work fine. The curved ones are good where the screen is highly rounded at the sides, like the older 911s. I don't know if they do them now, but when I had my 993 I couldn't get a curved blade in the right size.

THX911,
Not sure of the performance difference between the normal and curved PIAA wipers, but on OPC fitted wipers I have problems with the drivers side wiper missing part of the middle of the screen, I used to get a white arc of dirt on the passengers side in the Winter.

I also bought the "VISION Screen Wash" (keeps windscreens clean, repelling rain, sleet and snow) and "VISION Screen Protect and Coat" (coats the windscreen). http://www.piaa.co.uk/wipers/vision.asp

Anyway, I just love the water beading on the screen with the Silicone Wipers, I can't wait till it rains now (A bit sad but true), not that it has stopped raining this summer!

Chris.

THX911,

Here's the PIAA part numbers for my 2003 986:

WS55EFB - size 12 with spoiler
WS55CEB - Curved Size 12

I got mine from http://www.hid.uk.com/ he's a bit slow, as mine order took over a week to come (out of stock), but good price.

Need to replace mine but I've not been that happy with OEM wipers - these silicon jobbies sound good. Bluebox - are those wipers you mentioned the full kit, i.e. holder & blade? Do you then just need to replace the blade in future. Also do you think the curved blade is necessary on passenger side - it's my driver's side wiper that misses a small patch at the bottom of the screen thanks to the curve. Does the non-curved silicon wiper with spoiler get around that problem?

Jw,
The ones I bought from HID came as a kit (holder with blade fitted).

The curved blade makes a difference, but I can only compare it with the OPC ones, which looked perfect before I removed them (blade was OK).

I didn't know you could just get a blade replacement, till I looked at the site Richard recommended.

Regards,
Chris.
