Wiper / indicator stalk removal - 944 S2

I need to change over the wiper / indicator stalks on my S2 as the self cancel has ceased to work (I have a working set ready to be fitted). I can't seem to find a 'how-to' so assume that it's a relatively easy job? Any advice greatfully received!

I'm sure someone will be able to talk you through it, but one tip I've heard is to wear a helmet! The wheel can be stuck on and come off quite fast when you pull it. [&:]

For a three spanner poster this is a piece of cake. There is a dimension from the top of the column to the switch to ensure its smooth operation without scraping. That's the only thing you need to note of before taking off the old switch. Be careful with the plastic tabs on the trim if you remove it. I have seen a brand new trim plate snap its tabs off and there is at least one 944 that I know of that has had to have its switches glued into a brand new OPC supplied trim plate because they snapped off; first when I tried to put the switch in then again when the OPC tried with a second new panel, if I remember correctly.

I have similar recollections John .... :) although in fairness it sounds like Matthew isn't trying to fit new dashboard trim so he should be OK on that front.

Yes, it's an easy job. Take all the trim off (it's a fiddly job but not at all hard) and look at the way that the column switches are held onto the column - there is a band that goes around the column with a pinch bolt at the bottom. Slacken that pinch bolt off and slide the switch assembly off the column, unplugging the wires from the back as you go. Yes, you do need to put the new assembly the same distance down the column as the old one was but it can (just about) be adjusted in situ.

Oli.
