Wiper Question

On intermittent wipe the wipers on my 944S2 park about 1.5" back on the upstroke, this also happens when switching off using the stalk following constant wipe.

Has anyone any ideas how to correct, if I just remove from the spline and reposition they will finish in a better position but the lowest point of the sweep would be too low if that makes sense.

Sounds like someone has had the small arm off the motor and not got it back on the right spline.

It's easy enough to fix if a little frustrating. You'll need to take the plastic cover and then the heater blower box off the top of the scuttle for access, then take the whole wiper assembly out. There is a 10mm nut up under the scuttle from memory, as well as the ones you can see and the ones around the wiper arm spindles.

Move the small arm on the motor a few splines until it's in the right place. It's trial and error if there isn't a mark to show where it should be. Once you get that arm positioned correctly (so that the shafts the wiper arms attach to stop at the point they change direction) then you just refit the wiper arms where you'd like them to park - there are little marks in some windscreens to show the correct position. Check you haven't set it up 180 degrees out so the wipers try to move down onto the bonnet before you test with arms!

When putting it back together be careful with the vacuum hose inside the heater box. Mine had been pinched between the housing and the scuttle by someone previously and I had to trim the damaged section off then it only just fitted. A bonus was that my automatic temperature knob on the heater actually started to work properly after that and maintained a nice cabin temperature at any speed with the roof up or down.

Thanks Fen I'll give that a go at the weekend, its jusy one of a number of little jobs I need to tackle. Mechanically its been great so far, a couple of long runs already and I'm delighted what a great place it is to be in the drivers seat.[:)]
