Wiper speeds

Just noticed today that when I switch my wipers onto speed 2 (fastest) it is not that much faster than speed 1, though is slightly faster, where I seem to remember they used to be (though I don't use that speed often), though when I use the windscreen washer jets and the wipers come on they are significantly faster than speed 1. So obviously not indicative of a problem with the wiper motor itself. Any ideas where to start...please?

Are you sure he is ready for speed 3 []

Scott, I hope it is just a switch positioning thing and not an actual fault somewhere [:(]

As mentioned, there are actually three speeds and speed 3 is used in conjunction with the wash. I found on mine that speed 3 was like 2 on most cars and speed 2 like speed 1 on other cars. Speed 1 on the 944 is a weird, ponderous speed. I stripped down and lubricated the linkage (well I had to, it fell apart...[:'(]) and it was a little better afterwards, but not great.

Must be something seriously wrong with your wiper system. I found my fastest wiper setting yesterday for the first time since I have owned the car. Blimey ol riley its fast. Its absolutly manic ! I thought the wiper blades were going to fly off the screen at one point. [:D]

Push the stalk again and you will find speed 3 [;)] (int down, 1,2 & 3 up)
Tony

Are you serious?? I never bothered as I assumed two was all it had plus intermittent.

By the way while on the subject of intermittent............my little adjuster wheel keeps being dislodged ie pushes back into the dash, is this an easy fix or a new switch/wheel?

Yes our wipers go to 'three' as has been immortalised in the famous 944 scene from 'Spinal Tap'

Tony - The 944 wipers go to three. Look, all of 'em, right across the board, three, three, three.
Scott - Oh, I see. And most cars go up to two?
Tony - Exactly.
Scott - Does that mean it's better? Is it any better?
Tony - Well, it's one better, isn't it? It's not two. You see, most drivers, you know, will be wiping at two. You're on two and it's hammering down. Where can you go from there? Where?
Scott - I don't know.
Tony - Nowhere. Exactly. What we 944s do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Scott - Put it up to three?.
Tony - Three. Exactly. One better.
Scott - Why don't you just make two better and make two be the top number and make that a little better?
Tony - [pause[/i]] 944s go to three.

Yes, that has happened to mine, You can reach up behind the dash and push it back. I would squeeze the clips, pull it out to fix it back into the slot with a little glue to keep it there. I did not do, this, left it hang for a while and now it has fallen off and I have the two wires hanging there. I have to solder it back on before glueing it.

This feature wa also imortalised in the film "A Few Good Porkers"

Diver944: You want wipers?
Sawood: I think I'm entitled to them.
Diver944: You want wipers?
Sawood: I want position3!
Diver944: You can't handle position3! []

Never mind the dark realms of speed three how manyout there dont know what happens when you push wiper stalk forward with lights on?

THE HEADLIGHTS WASH[:'(]

P.S. only if you have that kind of set up. Early 944s had the same column switches as the 924 which didn't have three speeds, so beware, if the switch breaks off in your hand then it probaly wasn't just stiff.
