Of course you could only go out when it's dry.......or my mate is selling a Hyundai with the wipers stuck on, use that one when it's raining!!

They are quite easy to repair/correct as long as long as you are careful & replace the segmental spur gear mechanism as you found it-this is what provides the reversing function.
I carefully cleaned up the shaft with wet & dry paper plus a fine carborundom stone-works fine now.
The car is currently in the MOT workshop and after checking it seems that there’s power to both motors, I’ve already changed the relay so i think it’s now the motors that have got to be changed.

I'm not sure what's involved in changing the front motor. It hides behind the big plastic box with the blower motor in it. Anything associated with the front linkage is generally very awkward and the wiper spindle threads can crumble so go easy on them! Hopefully the motor can be changed without removing the linkage. I'm sure the blower motor box though will need taken off, and again, this can be a pig with seized bolts, especially the ones round the back that you can't see! About 10 or 12 10mm bolts hold the top cover on IIRC. Prepare for swearing.........
Good luck

My car has lived outside since I bought it 23 years ago....front is still original on my 36 year old car. I think that I may have changed the rear at some point but can't remember.

And skinned knuckles - been there years ago with my old 944S, the RHD linkage was still available from Porsche for a reasonable price then, so I fitted a new one.
Thankfully for me it’s in the hands of my local garage so all the swearing and knuckle damage with be them ??
managed to get a used but working and tested front wiper motor for a little less than half that of the price from Porsche, hopefully it will arrive today ??
just Need to find a rear motor now
