Wipers

I've noticed that at speeds above 80mph (and lower speeds on a windy, gusty day) the windscreen wipers seem to creep up the windscreen about an inch or two. I gather this is probably a common feature on all our cars but why? Is it a worn wiper mechanism or is it a tired spring on the wiper arm itself. Also the wipers are not much use above 80mph as the motor seems to struggle to drive the wiper arms against the airflow over the windscreen. I've got Bosch wipers with those little spoiler things on the arms that are supposed to push the wiper into the windscreen as speed increases and prevent the wiper blade from lifting off the screen but it doesn't seem to be that effective.

I've also noticed that new cars seem to have wiper blades that are not aticulated with hinges and pivots. They appear to be a curled plastic extrusion that seems to hug the contours of the windscreen alot better (the tip of my passenger side wiper lifts away from the windscreen for the last inch or so as the wiper blade cannot bend round tight enough). Is this type of wiper blade available as a retrofit on 944's?

I've not noticed any of those foibles Scott. Could it be that your linkage is a bit loose and therefore introduces a bit of slop at high speeds/ windy conditions?

I had this problem just after buying my current car. In my case it was fixed by buying replacement blades with small aerofoils - pushing the blade down onto the screen at speed.
