Wiring loom recall

Does anyone have a copy of the TSB or other information relating to the engine wiring recall on 1995 993s? Or any idea where I could get it from? My car was checked by my local PC many years ago and I was told that it was not part of the recall and I never thought any more of it until recently.

I have been having a bit of an issue with the wiring in the engine bay, in particular the wires that connect to the temperature probe on the air duct. Peeling back the rubber sleeve there is no insulation to either of the wires, obviously allowing them to potentially short. Deteriorating wiring insulation seems to be the very problem the recall was introduced to counteract.

I have found lots of stuff from the US on their recall and my loom falls within the criteria I have found (part number and manufacture date), including TSBs issued by Porsche Cars North America but cannot find anything for Europe. Is the TSB the same for Europe but just badged for the area covered?

Any help with this would be appreciated as I don't fancy having to pay the £700 odd for a new loom plus the Porsche service time of 8 hours to fit it.

To see if your car is/was eligilble for any recalls see [link=http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=45996&sid=271874fa785fec4656d02aa42e576576]http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=45996&sid=271874fa785fec4656d02aa42e576576[/link]

There is a special part number for the replacement loom that was much cheaper than ordering the loom from the standard parts catalogue, somewhere in the range of £100. But if you need to foot the bill the labour charge will be the same.

IIRC all 1995 993s were part of that recall, without exceptions. It´s strange to me that your local OPC gave you a different information.

It took a full day to have the replacement done, so 8 hrs for fitting seems to be realistic. My car was at the OPC some years ago, maybe 10 or so?

In Germany it wasn´t just a factory recall, Porsche was forced to do it by the state, because the loom could cause engine troubles with potentially higher emissions, again IIRC.

Maybe another OPC could be worth a try.

Good luck!

Try this

I should have said that I have ran it through the on-line checker and it came back clean. But that may be because the PC had erroneously updated the records after it was in ten odd years ago. They never instilled confidence in me at the time.

It's the fact that the manufacturing date of the loom is well inside the problem period, which according to the US stuff I've read is an instant replacement. That and obviously that it is showing signs of the issues.

I did come across the part number for the replacement loom a while back but I've no idea what I did with it, so another long web trawl for that.

Hi Clyde,

My car has definetely had the work done, as I remember Porsche Edinburgh doing it many years ago. If there is some visual difference you are welcome to look at my car to compare.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer Callum but I don't think that would really help. I know mine is the original wiring from the identification tag, which gives the manufacture date as 02/03/95 but don't know why I was told it didn't need replacing.

Pretty sure the part number is 000 043 204 61 but get the OPC to check before you order it

Thanks anyway Maurice

I think that's the part number I had before, hopefully I won't need to go down that route.

00004320461 is £68.56+ vat, looks like this;

I may be paying you a visit Mathew, I'm waiting for a response from Porsche to say whether it's covered by the recall.

Its an OPC part only Im afraid. I hope you get it sorted under the recall, you certainly should. Cheap enough part for what it actually involves but as mentioned on here, not a 5 minute job to install. Good luck!
