Wishbone ball joint replacement

Morning All !

Took the Turbo to work yesterday, notable clunk from the front left suspension going over speed bumps - sounds very much like NS ball joint. Looking to replace this or have it refurbed.

This is one of the few jobs I've never done on the 944, any recommendations on kits or is there still a UK refurb option ( Place in Lancashire did both sides years ago but can't remember their name).

thanks in advance,

C

I believe Hartech (Bolton, Lancashire) still do them on an exchange basis. IIRC it used to be £135+VAT but I imagine that this has increased.

The Rennbay kit is well thought of as it uses brass inserts rather than plastic ones. It’s not something I’ve ever done but I’d be happy to attempt it on my own car as there are plenty of guides out there and it is seemingly obvious of the arm is too well worn to repair.

Thanks very much for the prompt responses chaps - TBH Rennbay is probably the best option, but given that I'll probably end up replacing the clutch shortly I may well go down the hartech route just to save a bit of time !

Hi Chris

I done my OS one with a Hamburg Technic kit supplied by ECP. IIRC was about £50 and was straight forward enough to do. 2 years and 10k miles later on a lowered car and all is good.

The NS one is still the original part and is absolutely fine after nearly 32 years and 162k miles! Did need the boot replacing to be fair last year so re-greased it at the same time.

Cheers

Stuart

Thanks Stuart appreciated - turns out the bottom ball joint is fine ! - slight clunk is in the top mount (fancy LR kit...) - I can live with this for a while - did notice that both castor mounts were 'old' and tired looking so have replaced them - onwards now to pulling the car apart for the clutch change !
