my 968 has the standard porsche plug in imobiliser, and today after lunch it wont start.

(it was fine when I parked it this morning.)

now, when the immobilser is de-activiated with the plug it makes a different tone than normal (at the end the beep is higher)

the car turns over fine just wont fire up,
there is no smell of fuel though.

any suggestions?

its parked somewhere awkward dont want to leave it there tonight.

Do you have a spare one? Failing that, is there a Porsche specialist nearby who would lend/sell you one?

If it is the same as that fitted to our 964,it was retro-fitted by the OPC dealers and they break into the ignition harness to take a live feed to the unit. There should be a square terminal block somewhere under the dash with the 2 feed wires with Lucar insulated connectors onto 2 spade termninals with 2 more side by side. The opposite face to the Lucars is a twin fuse socket with 2 fuses in it.These can work loose, get dirty, high resistance,or fail through old age.The Lucars can also work loose & make a poor contact..
I started the964,drove to the Postbox, posted a letter, drove home-stopped the engine, got something from the house, returned to start the car-nothing altough the engine turned.I hadto leave it as I had a ferry to catch.^5days later, having spoken to H&R?,they told me the above, opened driver's door, slid seat back to get head under dash,no block but 4 Lucars dangling.Looked on floor & under driver's seat was this block.Plugged all back together and "bingo",everything worked again,so plenty of insulation tape and strongly strapped to loom .
On the other hand ,this might be something else-do not panic "zis aeroplane can fly visout any engines-I repeat Do not Panic[:)]

Nice easy fix in the end [:)]

Unfortunately my Hamilton & Palmer Immobiliser died last week [:(]. Just replaced it with a modern remote clicker Immobiliser today so our S2 is mobile again after spending 10 days immobilised on the drive. I think I'll be doing the same to the Turbo shortly as more and more of the H&P boxes are gradually dying - not bad after nearly 20 years
