Just tried to start my 2006 Boxster and it wouldn't turn over, it was fine last night.

Symptoms:-

Dash lights come on
Depress Clutch message comes on
Turn key
Headlights flash
Drivers Window starts going down
Dash lights fade.

I assume it could be thebattery, but does anyone else have any suggestions?

It sounds like the battery. If you have a voltmeter see what the voltage is on the bateery. It should be around 13.5 volts to 14.5. if you have a charger give it a charge. If the voltage is less than this around 10 or 11 Volts then a cell has failed in the battery.

The window going down seems strange to me. Dasah lights fading point to the battery though. If you prove its not the battery from the above it might be the on board computer getting confused. Do you have any error nmessages from it or is it saying all is OK?

I can't imagine what else would cause this so its all I can suggest. I am sure other more knowlegeble people may give you other things to try.

Battery!
Just had to replace mine, same symptoms.

National Tyres - £85 for standard item, £93 for Heavy Duty which I got cos I've got aircon etc.

Definitely battery - Porsche one fitted £280, you need this to keep the extended warranty valid.

Failing that a Bosch Silver S5 or Varta Blue - Costco have the former at around £80 Halfords do a calcium battery with 4yr no quibble warranty for £100.

definately battery - i had same problem and symptoms on my old 986 - i paid £79 from welsh autoparts - fitted it myself no trouble at all

i was really proud of myself, so i tapped myself on the back and cracked open a beer

Robin,
Not wishing to be a smart....e but the voltage for a good battery is 12.5v , you will only get 13.5 v if its been recently charged or car taken for a run. I checked mine after one week, a new Boxster and it is 12.5v and starts on the button.
My voltmeter book say less than 11.5 volts and it needs a charge and if less than 10v will not charge up as its gone dud.
I have found this to be pretty accurate info and hope it helps anyone reading this.
