Work done

As I still can't make my mind up on whether to upgrade to the turbo I've spent some money on the 996.
New clutch fitted, new key head as alarm was causing some issues, new door lock, new rear coffin arm, two new horns fitted and horn plate, full 4 wheel alignment, air conditioning re gassed, gearbox oil topped up, rms done. Total cost including vat came to £1.3k.
Not sure how costs compare but I think some of these issues were well overdue, ie
1. Clutch has done 105k miles
2. This is my third key head in 6 years. I'm reliably informed that it is important to keep the key head well away from other keys as they damage very easily. I shall now be looking for a leather key pouch.
3. When the key head went I just ignored the alarm issue and used the key to unlock and lock the car. Didn't last long as the lock physically jammed so had to have this replaced.
4. Apparently, when I had new brake pipes fitted all round, it seems like the garage jacked the car on the rear suspension arm which bent it. I thought it was driving difficult after this visit but it would be impossible to prove. Anyway, suspension arm replaced.
5. Horn stopped working and I think the short in the plate probably blew two of the horns. Again, the plate lasting 105k miles I suppose is not bad.
6. Wheel alignment was obviously critical after changing the suspension arm
7. Didn't realise but I was informed that the air conditioning should be regarded annually. Is this correct?
8. Gearbox top up is something that I think often gets missed and as I haven't had it done for 6 years I think it was overdue
9. Rms seal was done but was informed that there was no need to do the IMS seal.
I was also informed the flywheel was ok and therefore did not get it replaced.
Whilst a lot of money, I am assuming that most of this work was overdue being a 99 plate car. Any thoughts

Surprised you did not have the ims changed while gearbox was out. When I bought my 996 I had rms and ims changed as precaution, although I was sceptical about the need for it. But when stripped down it was clear the ims would not have lasted much longer, so was money well spent. Mileage was 59000miles by the way. Your car may have had it done previously. Bet the car feels much better after suspension and geo carried out. Enjoy.

You did well if the clutch lasted 105k.

Keys can fail for no apparent reason. One of my remotes failed in a kitchen drawer, no other keys nearby.

The aircon should last longer than 12 months between charges. If there are no leaks, I would reckon on 3-4 years.

The transmission oil should be completely changed at 96k.

Yes, I'm afraid it is a typical sort of list on a 14 year old 996. Although you won't ever get it back, potential buyers will be pleased to see that this work has been done.

Fully agree Richard. The 996 is not a cheap car to keep when things go wrong. Nevertheless, another £29k spend will probably see the same or similar issues arise in the turbo. I had just as well keep the 996 for a little longer now and get the benefits from my spend. However, no doubt tyres will be required very soon followed with a service.
Thanks for your response
