Working on a 924s

Im thinking about buying a 924 and plan on doing the minor stuff myself servicing etc . Whats the 924S like to work on

My opinion is that the 924 is very easy to work on. The 924S, essentially the same as a 944, requires a little more understanding of it's idiosyncracies, and peculiar maintenance requirements. Nothing beyond DIY maintenance, but belt changes require planning, beg, borrow or stealing a decent tensioning tool for example. As for the upside down oil filter that drains over the power steering pump...

I agree;to me it makes sense to remove the aluminium undertray first before draining anything from the engine or trying to adjust/change belts etc.You preferably need a "strap" type socket drive oil filter remover.I have also made(my own engineering co) car ramp extenders which clip onto my car ramps to give a longer gentle slope so that spoilers (front and rear)don't catch. These work for the 964 as well as the BMW.

I've managed to do oil changes and a few other basics on my 924S myself without much difficulty (and I'm a girl!) but leave the complicated stuff to my specialist.
