Apologies as this probably shouldn't be in this forum but I don't know where else to put it.
I am going to be carrying out some under car work in the next few weeks ( brakes/brakepipes/exhaust/diff oil/engine oil etc)and I am sure I have seen a small electric/hydraulic lift which would raise the car safely by a couple of feet.
Are these able to be bought or hired and would they be suitable/safe given the question over the best jacking points for a 944.
Thanks

Steve

Steve,
I have just purchased a set of hydralic ramps so that I can work under the car.
You drive the car on to the ramps and then raise the ramps using a hydralic foot 'pump'. This raises the car by about 16 inches - giving plenty of space underneath.

I found mine by searching on e-bay for adjustable car ramps - which gave me a choice of the hydralic ramps or some very long ramps to raise the car - they are about 12 feet long and raise the car about 15 inches.

There are also some garage workshops which hire out the hoists by the hour but I could not find any locally.

Hope this helps

Mike

If I can ask, what sort of money did you pay for the ramps in the end, and are they decent quality? I looked at a few on Ebay, but there were none on there that I'd really want to put the car on then lie underneath!

Cheers

Giles,
I paid nearly £400 for the ramps - they are rated 2 tonne's (2000 kilo's) and are very well made. They have a very substantial safety stop which will certainly hold the car up in the event of an hydralic failue although I don't think it would be possible to drive the car off in those circumstances without ripping the bottom. The ramps are 12 inches wide and about 20 kilo's in weight.

I've been looking at these for ages - ended up wanting a four post lift!
What make are these ramps?
Thanks
David

David,
Mine came from CJ Autos (Haywood) Ltd.

I found them by searching on e-bay for 'adjustable car ramps'
Currently there are only 3 entries - all the same.

Yours

Mike
