Yet more questions. I'll stop soon I promise[;)]

Is there a workshp manual available either legit of otherwise ? I've got a copy of a 944 haynes manual on the way from a friend of mine but wondered is there anything specific to the 968 and perhaps a bit more concise than a Haynes DIY jobbie. An Internet Download would be ideal if anyones seen one around.

Cheers

I've just downloaded the 944 one too, so if anyone wants it drop me a line and I'll give you the site details.

Mike, another great source is www.clarks-garage.com lots of home written procedures in the 'workshop garage' section.

Most 944 procs will also be relavent to the 968, as the parts are similar if not the same.

www.paragon-products.com have quite a few technical documents, as do www.pelican-parts.com

Yeah, Clarks Garage is invaluable.
The pages on how to fix the sunroof alone saved me a fortune! [:D]

That's handy, coz my sunroof did a crunch, snap, click ,click, click yesterday and it sopped working one side. I stripped out the headlining and found that the nearside gear housing is the one that's no longer working and the off side one has a broken stud, that is supposed to be welded onto the roof section, that secures the housing to the roof, duh!

Reading Clark's garage notes on the operation of this, it would appear that the sunroof motor clutch has bound up and stripped the gears off of one side and snapped the gear housing securing stud away from the body work on the other side.

I've managed to manually lock the sunroof down by pushing the bars into the sunroof for now, although i've heard of these eventually working loose and the sunroof popping up when you least expect it and scaring the crap out of you, like perhaps while i'm belting round Bedford later this month.

The good news is that the gear wheels are cheap, couple of pounds each from your local OPC, and now that you have got at the mechanism, not too difficult to fix. Not sure about the broken stud tho. [>:]

I got 2 new gear wheels today from AFN in Guildford £10 not too bad. While i was there, i asked them how much a 12k service would cost, the woman had to go off and ask someone. While we waiting for the gears to come from the stores and for the price of the service to come back, she said "i know were very competitive on price"

I knew that was an outrageous statement but i decided to say nothing, well, i asked her "what makes you think that?" she said "well were very busy" i said "well this is Guildford and their nearly all company cars, so noone is counting the cost perhaps". The price came back at £480, "there she said, that reasonable, probably because your 968's an old car" i said "WHAT, you call that resonable, i call it extorsion". The parts manager came out with my 2 plastic gears and i left that glitering palace of glass, chrome, leather and highway robbery.

I'll put some pics up later of the repair work i'm having to do to secure the sunroof gear housing because of the snapped off stud.

£480 for an oil change ... [][][]

And at £10 for the two gears, they charged you about double what I paid at the OPC in Edinburgh a year ago! []
