Would you buy Box that had RMS?

Hi all,

Maybe buying a boxster. Car had "Major Maintence" at 27K. Assuming either clutch, RMS or both. Now at 40K and will get Porsche inspection before purchase. Would you buy a car that had RMS history?

Thanks,

Adrian

I would definately want to know what the Major Maintenance consisted of - Clutch is one thing and a 'consumable' - RMS is something different although if it has got to 40k it might well be one of the 70% ( + or - ) that escaped the problem. Previous owner/s are the ones to talk with to get the full monty. [;)]

If you ruled out all Porsche's that have ever had an oil leak somehow then you would end up buying a bmw. It happens, it's not THAT big a deal in reality, but it does need fixed if you notice it. There are many people driving their boxsters having had an RMS leak for a long time and are blissfully unaware.

it's not THAT big a deal in reality

I disagree. 21 pages and over 10k worth of hits on another thread suggest that RMS is big deal in reality. On the basis that over 70% of cars do not and probably never will have a RMS problem and those that have had it seems to be reoccurring. I would not touch a S/H Boxster that had a history of RMS with a barge pole. There is a lot of S/H Boxsters around without a RMS history, why take the risk?

If the service history has no mention of RMS can I be confortable it was never done?

Major Service was just that........the 24K major service. Leap of faith time.

I've always bought my boxster's privately and second hand.

Don't just rely on a leap of faith. I always ask the seller to show me all the documentation/history. I then write down any OPC's that have serviced it (and the OPC it was bought from if different) and then phone them up to see if they have any irregularities or problems noted on their system with regard to the car and definitely ask if it's had an RMS problem in the past.

You're spending a great deal of money - you should have the facts before you buy.

Good luck!

Just seen your latest post and realised you've already bought it.

I hope you're very happy with it - you've just bought a lovely car!

Dawn,

I rang the OPC but was told they could not release the data. Anyone know otherwise?

Adrian

Ive tried getting info on the car i bought and they wouldnt release the info to anyone who wasnt named on the receipt.
This also applies to non OPC dealers, even they can source the info, i suppose some of them dont know any better though, try again and speak to someone else [;)]
