Would you tell??

Just wondering, if you were selling your car and it had been in a small accident (i.e. repairable) and didn't involve insurance would you tell a perspective buyer of the accident?

And ... if you were the buyer .. would it bother you that they didnt tell you??

For your own protection against future "comeback" the answer has to be, as Fred said, yes to both questions. When the paintwork on my MB C270 was checked in July (9 months after I bought it) and they found factory paint thickness (+/-100 microns) everywhere except the front nearside wing - which showed 240 microns and thus probably respray - I was extremely annoyed, but the seller did not respond to questions, guess it was too long after purchasing!

Buyer beware I would say.

If you are asked a direct question - has there been any damage or repairs done - you have to say yes and show the buyer where.

If the buyer doesn't ask, why should you volunteer the information and damage a potential sale?

ETA. Providing that you are not hiding some terrible guilty secret by saying nothing.

Well I've just come across a Porsche site which has the picture of the car I was planning on buying "¦. People have commented on it and it states "˜after the small accident "" boyfriend had reversed into it' "¦ so now Im not sure if the whole story (of it being a surprise spray is legit) or its had a small dent which has been repaired and she doesnt see it as an accident "¦ gutted now. I even text the person selling the car asking if it had ever been in an accident to which the reply was no, never.

On speaking to people at work "¦ my car has a tiny crack next to the light (I reversed into the farm gates) "" i.e my accident "¦ they said well if you had it repaired and the area resprayed would you tell someone about it? It was not a car crash just a small repair so not quite sure what Id answer to be honest "¦

Have since spoken to the seller. Apparently her car was stationery and her partner reversed into hers and it scuffed the paint (not dented) and she had taken it for the scratch to be sprayed over ... she's given me the name of the garage that did the initial paint job and the repair for me to check with ...

As soon as bl*ody possible!! Im literally just waiting for mine to be sold ... Ive got the rest of the cash saved up (and its seriously burning a hole!)

Ive got a guy coming Sunday who works away and wants a VX for the weekend - got two people interested that need to sell theirs first ... its so frustrating!

As soon as mine goes, got to arrange the inspection that can take straight away!

When I go and see a car I always ask 1)has the car been in an accident? Has the car ever had pain? If the answer to both these wa sno and I then found out that the car had one or the other and I had not purcashed I would walk away.
What else have they not told You![:-]
