WRC - Weltmesiter

I had been pre-warned that it was going to happen but that is all I know. Sorryk. Hopefully Andy Ferns Porsche buisiness next door will continue and grow as Andy is a really great and knowledgable chap. One of the rare few who knows his stuff as well as being a genuine enthusiast.

Nooooooooooooooooooo [:(]

What now for the Rollers of Truth? [&o]

Wasn't one of the reasons for using this particular type of benchmark test that it's results were pretty well repeatable on any similar device (eg for comparison with cars in the US)? Just find another one of the same type.

How significantly gutting.

It was always a great pleasure seeing Alan and his team and the workshops always seemed a hive of activity. Would you believe it?

Regards "The Rollers of Truth" I seem to recal there is anothor dyno of the same type in Surry (I think it was reported in All Torque.

Reading the posts on Piston Heads it would seem Alan still owns the Dyno so perhaps all is not lost?

It's a shame that WRC is no more, it was a great facility with some mouth watering cars to look at [:(]

Darren at RPM mentioned a place in MK that has a Dyno Dynamics road, a quick google suggests it's: http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/
This could perhaps be a good alternative as it's not far from Silverstone, assuming they're up for it.

Maybe before we book it for another 944 Dyno Day we could take one of our cars there that we know has not changed since last year and do a sample test to see just how similar it would be.

It might be difficult to find one that hasn't changed though. :)

We need one that was tested recently - perhaps like LIL :)

Sorry to hear the news also, but on the subject of DynoDynamics rollers there is one at West Tuning in Thruxton also. I don't know if Ray would do a dyno day, mind (though there was a 968 among the Nobles outside last week when I was there).

Hi Fen, wondered where you'd gone? So what may I ask were you doing at a dyno the other day? What's become of the 911?

I was having the RS6 remapped. The 911 lives with a nice chap in Aylesbury. It isn't worth taking a 911 (or even a Porsche of any sort, certainly not of the age I can afford) to New Zealand. Audis on the other hand seem to fetch a premium there.

Once you're there you will see quite a few imports for much cheaper than we get them for just across the ditch, however they're mostly Japanese. Still a tricked up Suby could be fun for low $$$.

As I have got older I have developed a set of simple rules to help in choosing a car:

1. Must be German
2. Driven front wheels only acceptable if in addition to driven rear wheels
3. Must have in excess of 350 bhp (started at 150 and has incremented steadily)

I appreciate my Audi 80 fails on 66% of them but I consider it not as a car but as a slightly more preferable transport mechanism to the train. Rule 1 is not negotiable. Well, maybe it is in etremis, but not for any Subaru.

I terms of the RS6 I have done my research. I know how many are in NZ and I know how much they sell for. Even getting 15% less for it as a UK import rather than NZ new it's still not going to cost me any money to own if I sell it in NZ 12 months after buying it.

Nice to see you back on the forum Fen - looks like you are amounting quite a collection of cars there especially seeing as you are leaving the country! The RS6 is a very nice motor and the other extreme end of the scale to the 530d I would imagine. Any news on progress for the 944 or are you still trying to sell it? Just out of interest, when is it that you actually pack up and go and are you going on one of those working visa's as we had a look at what was involved in doing it that way a couple of years ago and have never even been to NZ!

We expect to be off at the end of the year and it's a one-way move on a resident visa for us. Our house sale fell through though so that gives us a little more uncertainty around timescales.

The Audi 80 is disposable and will go on a last-minute eBay £0.01 starting bid no reserve auction when we're ready to leave (or when my contract ends if one or other party decide not to renew). The 530d is actively for sale now. The RS6 is coming with us (it's quite different to the 530d considering they are both big German auto estates) and the 944 is still available to anyone with £7k to spare though I will be looking to put an engine in it when the Hearse finds a new home. Once running I'll decide if it's back up for sale or if it gets a space in a container also. Most likely it will be sold though.

I used to relax this for Swedish cars but recent Saab pain (GM) means that it is unlikely I will trust in a swedish motor again. What about other Japanese cars? OK a new honda will fail your other criteria but as a run around?

Had it not been for Nick F's experience I may have tried a 350z Roadster but really nothing else from the rising sun does it for me to the point that I see the available cars as possibly the biggest negative of NZ. I might buy a Hilux Surf out there to abuse off road I guess, and a Legnum VR4 might be a bearable short-term solution to the quick estate requirement if I have to sell the RS6 to fund a house. Basically though I don't like the plastics they use, the (lack of) styling, the dearth of character, the fascination with in-your-face tat etc.

The 530d is actively for sale now.

Where is this advertised Fen? I am interested in a 530d or 330d as a replacement for the 9-5.

Only on Titianic a few weeks ago so far as I may have someone interested from there and the V5 is still away taking the reg off it. I can PM you some details later if you like, but basically an '02 530d SE Touring in Toledo blue with FSH, 149k miles, just MoT'd and inspection 1 serviced (as in driven home and parked since they were done a week or so ago), taxed to April '08, widescreen nav, grey leather, 17" wheels, auto xenons, auto gearbox, new front tyres, removable tow bar etc. etc. The reg transfer should be complete any day now then it is time to swap it for some cash.
