WRITTEN OFF BY CRACKED HEADLAMP!

Unfortunately the car is classified as a cat 'D' car, having suffered extremely light damage. The only damage that it had, believe it or not, was a broken headlamp glass. This has now obviously been replaced.

Funniest thing I've read in a while....

Ditto. Who's going to put in an insurance claim for a broken headlamp glass?[]

I know Im a bit anal about my car cleaning, but that car also appears to have had the sh*test polish-job ever..

I was thinking the same. One of the worst examples I've seen advertised [&:]. Not even worth turning into a track car since it's a C4 [8D]

Strange angle for the rear wiper to lean at....perhaps that was enough to write it off as well.

Hi guys!

Many, many thanks for all of your very kind comments regarding my car..........

The ONLY damage was indeed a broken headlamp. £26 from Europarts......

Yes, its got aftermarket alloys, yes its got a rear wiper, and yes its £6,000 cheaper than it should be........

If anyone actually has the nerve to ring me, I am more than willing to discuss the car with you.

Again, many thanks for your kind words of encouragement.

Yours,

Richard Bell.

welcome to the forum! i thought it would have been snapped up at that price by now, but it seems to be listed in 996 section on pistonheads, relisting it under 964 should help. thought cat d meant uneconomical repair so on a £15,000 car it would have £4000 to £6000 damage?
good luck with the sale

Hi there Keith,
Pistons heads is now updated, thank you very much for that!
Regarding uneconimical repair values and Cat D vehicles, I am sure that I do not have to tell you that insurance companys work in VERY strange ways!
Anyway, once again many thanks for the 'heads up' re piston heads.
Kind regards,
Richard Bell.

if thats all it needed someones going to get a bargain.. cant really criticise the car from a photo , stand by the phone! cheers

Insurance companies might work in strange ways but I'm sure they would not Cat D a car of that value for a cracked headlamp. My guess is that it could be a Cat D due to being stolen/recovered and the headlamp got broken when it was stolen i.e. the insurance company paid out on it before it was recovered. It would help with the sale if the reason for Cat D was clear because at the moment it appears suspicious.

I'm making this point because I know of someone who is interested in a cheap 964.

Hi again.
It seems that I cannot stress this enough......
The ONLY damage to the car when we collected it was a broken headlamp lens.
Nothing else.
I get offered 400 + cars on a daily basis. The only information I get is the vehicle model, BRIEF description of damage and where the vehicle is located.
I reply via email, tendering my offer for the vehicles I am interested in.
I then receive an email back form the insurance company, telling me if I have been successful.
Thats as much information about the cars that we ever receive.
Sorry, but unless you want me to 'invent' a story regarding the car I cannot tell you anything else.
Guess I am being too honest........ Would I be better of by lying and saying that it was stolen recovered????
It is a VERY cheap, VERY usable car. Dont forget that it has 12 months MOT.
Viewing is more than welcome. Come and make your own mind up.
Again, please feel free to call me on 07903 711860 to discuss the car if you want to.
Yours,
RIchard Bell.

I agree with steve, the initial thought is it looks fishy and that will possibly put people off contacting you in the first place..

I believe you're telling the truth, and Im trying to help so dont take this the wrong way; for this kind of car I think peoples reaction will be to steer clear based purely on the lack of information about the write off and a few details.. Would it not be possible to chase up the cat-d? Surely the reason for the cat-d is recorded somewhere, or at least the insurance company who issued it? They might be able to give you a fuller history? I thought a full vehicle check report gave you reasons for cat-c/d aswell..

I think if there was more of a story there it would be less off putting; my reaction was "cat-d for a broken headlight, aftermarket wheels, broken (?) rear wiper, machine polishing marks.. Someone's trying to hide something" whereas I think if it had a fuller story (stolen recovered or whatever, wheels missing now replaced, headlight cracked now replaced, etc., etc...) people would at least be more interested in picking up the phone and finding out some more about it

Being a C4 it would be a really cheap base for a 9M64RS (or whatever ninemeister call them) and it has the hydraulic powered brakes and the correct C4 shell already.. alternatively just drive it as is!

Good luck with the sale

ben
