X51 POWERKIT...THE REAL STORY.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has actually driven or owns a 997 with the X51 kit please.

Pointless affectation or real-world difference??

£8000 for 26 BHP; however you look at it, it's not value for money in any shape or form. Stick on the PSE alone for £1600 and leave it at that. I know that those who have had the X51 kit fitted speak highly of it and extol it benefits; but you'd hardly expect them to do otherwise - would you?

I'll just repeat the question for the sake of clarity:-

I was wanting to hear from anyone who has either driven, or owns, a 997 with the X51 Powerkit.

997C2S add a full tubi system and i believe it liberates circa 20bhp and a damn sight cheaper than 8 grand.

get a nice used 997 S then take it for a Manthey Engine upgrade instead !

BLONDELAWMAN,

I'll be able to tell you in October when my 997C2S arrives. It's an October build & so delivery might slip till Nov. I too wanted an answer like yours but seemed none are forthcoming in the way we both want and so went for the option anyway.

£8K for 26 horses can never be good value can it? Plain couldn't resist the opportunity though.

Greg.

BLONDELAWMAN,

Thanks Ian.

Am waiting the production slot date from my OPC. Due in Oct / Nov sometime.

I bought a Porsche magazine from WHSmith's over the weekend & there's a write up on their views on the X51 fitted to a C2 997S. The mag's at home & i'm at work at present and can't remember the mag's title.

If it's performance we're after they got 0-60 in 4.3 & 0-100 in 10 seconds dead.

Greg.

Hi Guys, Have driven C2S with Powerkit and didn't notice a huge difference between that and the standard C2S with Sports Exhaust. IMHO not really worth the extra outlay of £6500 over and above the PSE. You also need to ask yourself whether you will see a penny of the £6500 - my guess is not

exporkerboy,

Thanks. And your experience is reflected in the performance results obtained in the magazine. Recognising it's a little vulgar to talk about 0-60 times they achieved a best of 4.49 seconds for the standard C2S and 4.3 seconds for the X51 fitted version. So as you established not a huge difference.

My decision to go for the X51 was a ruled-by-heart one and not a sensible fiscal one. What the heck.

Greg

I was talking with the dealership principal and the parts manager at OPC Mid-Sussex earlier today and raised the issue of the X51 upgrade; notwithstanding that some will consider them to be biased, both were mightily impressed with the upgrade fitted to a customer's 997 C4S last week. The headline numbers in terms of an increase of 26 BHP and minimal reduction in 0-60 figures don't tell the true story. Apparently the car is transformed - and was considered to be a comfortable GT3! Given that the OPC's technicians drive these cars on a daily basis, they were amazed by the all round improvements offered by the X51 kit. So it may be that the costs are justified.

Greg, I agree that there is a difference - it's just a case of dimished returns. I drove both X51 and stock C2S at Millbrook back to back and it definitely doesn't transform the car - it is just a little different. I sympathise with your heart ruled decision though [:D][:D]

Delbox, with the greatest of respect to Mid Sussex OPC - a comfortable GT3 is a standard C2 with no bits- light but still goes like a little ferret!
