X51 - Rev limit in sport mode?

Hello,

A few months ago I bought a lovely 2006 slate grey C2S from OPC Swindon. It has a lot of extras including TPM, PSE, chrono, and X51 powerkit, and I really am delighted with it.

I'm a bit puzzled about one thing though: with sport mode off the engine freely spins up to about 7500RPM - only in first and second of course - which seems about right going by what I've read in the handbook and sales blurb, but with sport mode on the rev limiter cuts in abruptly at 7200RPM.

Swindon are going to check that the DME is correctly set up, but meanwhile I'd really appreciate the views of any other owners (especially any who have the X51 kit) on what the rev limit should be when sport mode is on?

Thanks

Tim

Tim The rev limit for the x51 C2S is 7450rpm The sport button does change characteristics - the engine revs much more freely and has a harder limit cut off to protect the engine from over revving. The revs respond much more directly and quickly to throttle inputs so its easier to flare the revs past the limit therefore the limiter seems to cut in much "harder". You should have the same rev limit sport mode or not. However as stated with the more responsive mode it might well be flicking up past 7200rpm while the rev counter is catching up with it. Having allowed for that however in mine it cuts off at the same point with sports mode on or off and the re counter seems to keep up fine with the engine revs. I have clearly seen just over 7400rpm before the limiter for both sport mode and normal mode. So getting it checked out is a good idea. Hope this helps

In sports mode mine has a very hard limit cut, makes me jump more than anything else!! garyw

Gary true but that is partly because you only have two settings on your throttle - "on" and "off" ie foot on the floor or not on the pedal :ROFLMAO:

Nice to know I'm not the only who's accidentally bounced off the rev limiter now and then... I'm sure it's more easily done with the turbo though :) Thanks again for the replies gents. Tim

FWIW, OPC Swindon checked the DME and found no problems. However I'm guessing they probably did reset something, because now the engine will rev to 7400 in sport mode, whereas it had bounced at 7200 before (unless I just imagined that). Either way it's fixed now, so I'm happy [:D] To justify the trip to Swindon I also got a between-services oil change done, and picked up a jack so I can remove the wheels to keep them and inner arches squeaky clean (How sad is that?). Thank you okellyt and garyw for your advice, and thanks especially to the car's first owner, jbm, for getting in touch - all much appreciated! Cheers Tim

Great result Tim. Glad that Jon got in touch, nice thought garyw PS- how sad? very [;)] but you're not alone[:D]

tims1959 Glad you got it sorted - now you can get back to enjoying revving the proverbials off it[:)]
