Xenon Headlight Blown ??

Have a Xenon upgrade to my 993 (1997) and front offside headlamp has "blown". How do I access internals of headlight to change bulb? Any good / reliable sources for replacement bulbs? Any help hugely appreciated.

To pop the headlight out simply unclip the lever in the boot, lift it upwards, return to halfway and then the whole headlamp unit will lift out. I recently got an upgrade kit from http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/ and it's was great quality, delivered the next day. I believe they do replacement bulbs too. Just make sure you get the correct wattage and Kelvin rating.

Is it a genuine porsche xenon system ? If its only a aftermarket hid kit it may be worth checking its not the ballast or a loose connection, seen a few of these and the bulbs don't often fail, but the ballasts do quite regularly, hope that helps

I am fairly sure an upgrade. The bulb proving very difficult (like impossible) to get out in any case. It is like it is designed not to come out by the structure of the light mounting. Most odd. Will have a play. Thanks for the advice.

sounds like after market, the aftermarket xenon h1 bulbs are a tight fit, have always found a small amount of the light housing needs to be ground or filed away,to get the bulb to fit, although with enough force it may fit without, would be hard to get back out though, which sounds like the reason you are having such a problem getting it out. when you take out the headlight is there a wire or two coming out of the back of the casing ? If so I would plug the headlight into the ballast on the other side of the car, that way it will tell you if its the bulb or the ballast that's faulty, could save you struggling to remove a bulb that could be ok

Great idea. Didnt think of that. I can see all sorts of problems if I force it apart, so at least this will narrow down the options. Much appreciated yr help. Am now away for a few days so will resume task Thursday and let you know how it goes.

Finally got chance to look at it today, having been away. The suggestion that it might be connections was great advice. Took the whole lamp unit out, unplugged all and plugged it back in and hey presto fixed. Never would have got that bulb out in any case so good job this solved it ! Great advice chaps and thank you very much indeed. Dont use the Forum that often but always amazed at the wonderful response.
