Xenon Headlight conversion

Happy new year to all 964 owners !!

Has any other 964 owner ever had a Xenon headlight conversion done ?. I have just seen a kit on ebay for doing this and wondered if anyone had fitted one. The ebay item number is :120305437670

Am finding that the original headlamps just don't live up to the cars performance and this kit seems like a way of resolving the problem.
Any advice or experiences on this would be much appreciated ,if not I might get a kit and post the results !!

Steve,

No specific experience with Easy Driving Ltd although quite a few 964 owners have fitted kits from Hids4U and Ace Parts as far as I'm aware. You just need to watch the length of the bulb as some of them are quite long and require a hole to be made at the back of the headlamp bowl.

From my own experience on another H4 car the switchable xenons aren't that great and not a patch on the factory xenon lights. The real problem is that the reflector designed for the halogen light doesn't work very well with the xenon light and you get more flare and misdirected light than with regular bulbs.

I don't want to put you off and there are lots of 964 ownes who have fitted xenons and are very happy with them.

A good alternative - although not up to the light output of the xenons - is the latest Philips high output H4 bulbs. A much simpler and cheaper upgrade and still a good improvement over standard.

You may also find that old lenses and reflectors might be part of the cause of your poor headlight performance - and changing to xenons alone won't solve that problem.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Thanks for the opinions on the Xenon headlamp conversion,

Have recently fitted new glass lenses, and while doing this cleaned the reflectors, they appeared clean and in good condition unlike an old volvo 440 I had for a daily drive - the lenses in that were almost green with corrosion and that was like driving with candles !! A newer car too than the C2,I scrapped that car because new reflectors cost more than the car was worth.New headlights ??,well they cost more each than the car !!

Getting back to the C2 headlights I think I'll try some of those lamps first ,

I fitted the halford brighter bulbs (come in a gold pack and are often available as BOGOF). The light is much improved but would agree that the 964 is still not the best car to drive at night.

I suspect there may be a clamp down on this soon, there are more and more cars out there dazzling me. Spoke to my MOT guy last summer and he was happy with my lights (on 993) after he'd adjusted them a little (first MOT after I fitted HIDs). But the edges of my dipped beam are definately less sharp than the beam from OEM HID lights.

We need to find someone to manufacture some replacement reflectors...

Thanks for bringing up that youtube film, that was interesting and shows these kits to add to the problem of motorists driving with pooly adjusted headlights,or failed lamps.

Think i'll be trying the brighter lamps from halfords !!

Steve
