Xenons

Got Xenons now, from design 911 in Essex.

They ARE brighter, but the beam pattern is as naff as it was before the kit was fitted. There's loads of 'black holes', ie an uneven distribution pattern

Is it possible to change the unit or lenses to something more modern, or should I just be happy with what I have?

I dont see why you couldnt change the unit? ive not had one out myself but surely something like a BMW you should be able to get them for? im sure you could put angel eyes in too if you liked them.

Anythings possible.

what are the dia of 944 lights?

They're standard, I think they're Golf Mk2 units at the end of the day

I don't know if that is the case, but I do know UK spec 944 headlamps are a pain to replace. The lamp bowl has the mountings welded on the back so it is far from just finding a lamp of the correct diameter.

New lamps do make a big difference though as the beam pattern isn't disrupted by stone chips and a generally pebble dashed lens.

What about the Cebe headlights that are part of the Iceshark kit?

I've never had the headlights off my car so don't know how they mount but I would have though that it would be possible to fit smaller dia headlights off a more modern car and have an donut shape adapter plate made up. I would like to see the headlights off a BMW with the donut sidelights and proper lensed Xenon lamps.

They don't fit UK spec cars as they don't have the brackets on the back of the bowls - I have a pair in my shed, that IceShark sent me, if you would like to try them.....not that there would be much point.

If you look in PET you will see there are two distinct mounting methods. UK spec are different to the States as we have levelling motors. I assume if you swapped all of the pod internals to delete the levelling motors you could then open up a greater choice (or even just a choice) of alternative lamps.

Mine doesn't have the levelling features!! If I ever get round to fitting one of these Xenon kits I might give you a shout John.

Damn, I should have first bought new OE replacements to put the Xenons into.
Ah well, I'll just wait for my first cracked lens, I guess.....
