Hi,
A big shout out thanks to Ian our R14 organiser for another fabulous Xmas bash held in a most picturesque part of the country, Symonds Yat.
The event started at 11:00am with a meet at Cardiff OPC by kind invitation from Martin Wright service manager., Stephen Cooper, Dealer Principle was on hand to discuss any Porsche needs and a great host. There were a varied selection of vehicles on display. A particularly nice looking 993 Turbo took my fancy but not this year! However I did purchase the bottle opener and wine stopper!
Our party then had a steady drive to Tintern, our destination the Old Railway Station. We enjoyed a most appropriate and amazing soup. It really was incredible and would without doubt in my mind win a place on Master Chief.
After luch we headed off to The Royal Lodge, the Sat Nav in my Blackberry may need looking at as my wife and I ventured to the wrong side of the river and experienced some very challenging narrow roads with ice. It certainly tested the 996 4S. Eventually realizing we were on the wrong side of the river and even a Porsche is not amphibious, although I was tempted, we took another route and got to our destination. However getting lost is all part of the fun.
A warm mid-afernoon welcome, as always by Paul and his staff greeted us at the Royal Lodge.
The evening commenced with canapes, we then took to our tables and enjoyed a great Christmas feast. The after dinner speaker was a certain notable Mr Barrie "Whizzo" Williams. His speech about his life in motor sport was hugely entertaining.
We ventured outside after dinner and enjoyed a firework display, the valley resonating the sound of the colourful gun powder.
The party continued into the small hours.
This morning we woke to a frosty and foggy start.
The picture dipicting the moment, a nice image of the 911 brand from 993, 996 and the most modern second generation 997. Think the silver one looks the best though[]
We had to depart rather sharpish as we had a call from Grandma, our 4 year old Jessica was missing us terribly and a tad upset.
Look forward to attending events in 2011 now our lower ground floor refurbishment has been completed on the house.
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Alan & Joanne Sweeney.
