Good afternoon everyone.
I trust that you all had a good festive break.
I have a fairly simple question, can anyone tell me what radio would have been fitted to a Febuary 2000 996 turbo?
It currently has an Alpine unit fitted, looks a bit garish to say the least!
Many thanks

Festive greetings Brian.
I don't think there is such a thing as a simple answer in relation to Porsche[:)]
You had a choice standard radios, and then optional extras in the form of PCM units.
I'm sure Richard will be along to give you a more informed answer.when he has finished his Turkey.[:)]

The CDR-22 would have been the most likely original fitment. It should be shown on the option sticker - (M)695 would be a CDR-22. There were other options, CDR32 (M698) or MDR32 (M699). When you say 'radio' I assume you mean a single-DIN slot radio - not a double-DIN system, which would be PCM1.

Hi Richard.
Many thanks for the reply.
The 996 has a single din unit fitted, no PCM.
Can you recommend a unit that is able to to take an IPod connection unit or does one just accept that it's old technology and enjoy what you've got?

If you want something 'period' then you could look for a second hand Becker unit. Something like a Grand Prix, Indianapolis, or Traffic Pro, depending what features you want. They are pricy though. Some newer units aren't too garish. I bought a new Blaupunkt Toronto for my 3.2 about 3 years ago, and it is quite plain looking, and has Bluetooth phone and iPod connection.
