Year of Manufacture Query

ADDLED

New member
I was looking at the VIN decode tool and have a query. My P reg 993 was registered in October 2006, but the decoder identifies it as being manufactured in 1997 as per the vin#.
Can someone explain how its possible for a 1997 car to be registered before it left the factory?

at a guess, i'd say it means your car is a 1997 Model Year car... my old 996 was a 2003 Model Year even though I bought it in October 2002....

Factory (Model) year starts in Sept of the previous year. So an Oct 96 Registered car would correctly be a 97 Model Year.

There are exceptions to the general rule about the new model year starting in Sept/Oct because my Model Year 2004 car was registered in June 2003 (I think the factory decided that all C16 RHD GT3 Mk IIs would start as MY04)!.

True... And they sometimes used to shove a few of "next years model" through the production line before the August shutdown.
