Yellow Engine Warning Light - Return to workshop

Driving home in the rain last night, I experienced a sudden loss of power and the yellow engine warning light came on.
No engine response when accelrating in any gear, lots of fan belt type squeeling i think and lots of spluttering, with the engine sounding more like an air cooled engine.
Spluttered the short distance home at 20mph with the hazards on.
Any ideas what it could be? Sorry I know it could be any number of things, but someone might have been unfortunate to experience something like this.

Waiting for Porsche assist to call back with a time to collect the car and let me know what they are going to leave in its place.
Nervous at what could be wrong, intrigued to what they might lend me.

Thanks,
J

My over optimistic hope of driving a Porsche whilst mine is being fixed has been short lived.
I have been told a BMW or Mercedes will be delivered. []

I had this a few months ago. It turned out to be a couple of electric coils cracked. Porsche replaced them and fixed something to do with air intake and charged £278 with 10% discount for club member. It has run fine since.

Good luck.

Jim I'd guess at coil failure too, it's fairly common on these as they seem to get sprayed by the rear tyres. Should be covered under the Porsche warranty.

Re courtesy car, Porsche Assist will hire a car for you, hence the BMW/Mercedes. The dealers are reluctant to give-up their courtesy fleet for work like this !

Ross, Robert,
Thanks for the replies.
I hope it is coil failure.
I'm still waiting to hear from the OPC.
I have the extended warranty so hopefully it is covered, if not, £278 isn't too bad.
Any idea how long the work takes if it is a coil failure?

Mine was only off-road for one day, I suppose depends how busy the OPC are ? And if it is coil failure or not ?

Glad to report it is a coil failure, covered under warranty.
I get the car back today. [:D]
Thanks for all your help.

Blast, same thing happened to my car this evening. Light has come on. RAC inspected and reckon its one of the coils on the left bank. Just rolling along the M4 when it went. Car being picked up in the morning and hopefully fixed during next couple of days.

I have an 05 C2.

Is the Catalyst OK with the unburned fuel. Thankfully it would have been rather hot at the time, so hopefully its ok.

Mark.

Sorry to hear that Mark.

Catalyst - no idea.

I limped mine home when it went as it was late, wet and I was in south London at the time and didn't fancy leaving it or waiting for Porsche assist / RAC.
I got the OPC to check all was ok and no faults came back and it has driven fine since being repaired.

Jim
